Bourbon maker Jim Beam is halting production at one of its distilleries in Kentucky for at least a year as the whiskey industry navigates tariffs from the Trump administration and slumping demand for a product that needs years of aging before it is ready.

Jim Beam is owned by a Japanese company; in 2014, Japan's Suntory Holdings, the leading Japanese spirits producer, purchased Beam Inc. (maker of Jim Beam and Maker's Mark) for $16 billion, creating the combined entity Suntory Global Spirits. Suntory continues to produce the iconic bourbon in Kentucky, maintaining its American roots while leveraging its global reach.

Sounds like an attempt to artificially reset demand through their supply side.

They are expecting a downturn in demand from Arse during Lent. Just getting ahead of things.

Hmm, produce it outside US avoid tariffs. Re-launch with premium branding on the US stuff.

They will still have 2 stills operating, just closing the one near the visitors center. They are likely forecasting a big decline in demand over the next ext 4-8 years.

Has anyone let arse know of this news?

Jim Beam is terrible. The worst bourbon on the market. Cheap swill.

As of January, there were about 16 million barrels of bourbon aging in Kentucky warehouses — more than triple the amount held 15 years ago,
Supply far exceeding demand.

Bourbon is an incredibly difficult industry to forecast. This shutdown will affect supply anywhere from 4-18 years from now depending on which distillery is shutdown and what rickhouses are left barren.
I couldn't imagine doing supply planning for a mass produced retail product that takes a minimum of 4 years to produce.
All I know is if in 7 years the market is turned upside down again due to supply issues and I'm paying $200 for a bottle of Bookers out of the back of a guy's trunk under an overpass at 2 in the morning I'm gonna fricking kill a hobo in frustration.

And despite what some in this thread say I have loved Jim Beam.
I like the heavy mash flavor.

Statistically, Gen Z is drinking alcohol far less than older generations. I wonder if as the boomer population begins to dwindle that alcohol sales won’t keep up with supply.

But sales figures and polling show Americans are drinking less than they have in decades.

Venture to guess most don't know Knob Creek is just well-aged, premium Jim Beam bourbon, one of many products - bourbon, rye, light whiskey and single malt - made at the Jim Beam distillery by the Jim Beam company.
