It's a shame most people only know him as the voice of Darth Vader. He was a great actor.

I'd think Field of Dreams is pretty well known.

He also looked to be having a great time in his appearance on "The Big Bang Theory" when he and Sheldon spent the night doing a variety of things.

Dr. Strangelove, Lion King, The Sandlot, Coming to America, Conan, Matewan...

I would hope it's well known he's the voice of Mufasa in The Lion King
He was also pretty funny in Coming to America... I don't know if he had a lot of comedic performances before that, but it proved he could handle that type of timing as well.

I need to rewatch Cry the Beloved Country again again. Watched it shortly after reading the novel in high school. I remember Richard Harris and James Earl Jones were superb.

What kind of shite was that?
Your son askes you why you don't like him and you basically tell him no i don't like you but i give you food, clothes and a roof b/c i have to. I was waiting for the part where he would say i love you, but that didn't happen. frick that dad.

Who thought this was good parenting back then
Parents really did suck back then because they only thought of parenting and a job, duty, and task. Could you imagine saying that to your son in 2025??

What son wants a father that can't say i love you, or at the very least show him that you love you him? You can still be hard on your kid, while still telling him you love him. This pile of garbage told his kid he doesn't even like him, much less love him.
Again, frick that dad. The only positive thing he did for his son in that scene was teach him how to not treat your kid when you grow up and be a dad yourself.

Snowflake?
Man, you can F off with that nonsense. Human desire is to be loved. That demonstration was of a piece of shite dad, period. And that just shows how great James Earl Jones is as an actor, because he made me hate him in that scene. Man, he was great.

What we say and what we mean are two different things. August Wilson was a wonderful writer.
Troy is projecting his own failures/worries/demons/struggles onto his so. He says he doesn't like his son but in the process he reflects on his responsibilities as a man and his own failures as an athlete and his criminal past and the resentment he feels toward his son (not achieving his dreams but his son has the potential to do so) and the relationship he had with his own father. It's never about one thing when the writing is good.
I suggest reading the play to understand the whole story.

No play has ever been written about Dad of the Year

This is a fabulous play. I've had the opportunity to see it live. Can only imagine what it would've been like with Jones in it.
