Sad day for college football. USC’s choice, btw.

Every D1 school should cancel/not schedule ND games. Force them to join a conference or play a schedule of D2 teams.

ND refused to play in September, which was the only viable date in the modern landscape, and then ran a media campaign around it to paint themselves as the victim.

I hate what this sport has become:

Yet, scheduling complications and College Football Playoff implications were at the root of the series’ demise, according to those familiar with the negotiations.

The latest round of discussions among administrators at each school fizzled over the last two weeks — a stunning about-face. In fact, the two programs were on the verge of finalizing a two-year extension of their agreement in late November, with USC agreeing to host Notre Dame next season on the traditional date after Thanksgiving and the Irish hosting in 2027.

However, USC officials determined that the game date was not ideal considering past decisions from the CFP selection committee in punishing schools for losses, especially those late in the season.

As an LSU fan, realignment has taken away several matchups I miss. ND could just join the Big 10 and they can easily remedy this. I hope other teams blackball ND and this forces them to join a conference finally.

Troy high school in Texas or Troy high school in California?

0 benefit to anybody to play competitive out of conference games now. None - if you win, great, but the punishment is not worth the reward.

Time to bring back the bumper stickers exceptionally popular around BR in 2003

Or USC not imploding the Pac 12 and moving almost the entire conference to the Big Ten? Scheduling wouldn't be an issue at all. They could lose to Notre Dame late, win the Pac 12, and still go to the CFP.

Instead...they're in a fight for survival in these stupid super conferences we made for ourselves.

Hence why Notre Dame shouldn’t be allowed in the playoffs.

I don't necessarily disagree in theory, but that's not really accurate. ND didn't lose a game this year after mid-September but was still excluded. Bama lost 2 of their last 4 games and was still included.

Your resume is your resume regardless of when the games occurred.

The game could’ve remained at the same dates it’s been for decades. ND had already accommodated USC for decades by not making USC play in South Bend in November. USC was fine with the current dates, until considering further the potential consequences of a loss* (which, based on recent series history, would be very, very likely).

*Also, as an aside, a bit ironic, given how the at-large scenario played out this year. Date of loss used to be much more impactful in cfb than I think it is now, which I do think is a good thing.

Miami would not be in the playoff without the ND win.

The management of the PAC-12 conference was damn near criminally negligent. The PAC12 network was horribly mismanaged when it should have been the gold standard for all sports not football and basketball.

The death of the old PAC-12 makes me so damn nostalgic for what we once had with a true, regional P6

The fact of the matter is, ND needs Southern Cal and not the other way around.

There was an agreement to play Week Zero and ND said no.

USC will have a top 5 SOS without ND this year while ND will be playing a AAC schedule.
