Do you REALLY think that was the best portal class in the nation?
This was buoyed by guys like Nic Anderson Patrick Payton and barion brown.
The DBs panned out and that’s it.

Delane, haulcy were all Americans ha. Payton, pyburn were solid. Brown was okay, moore was good at c. Gooden was solid. Thompson was decent. Sharp, Anderson were whiffs.

They COMBINED for 30 tackles and 3 sacks.
COMBINED.
For what we paid that’s absolutely ridiculous.

Decent is generous.

Payton Sharp Anderson brown Sydir Mitchell all whiffs.
Pyburn was mediocre.
Start adding up the NIL money from this and you can see why Austen Thomas leaving is a blessing

Pyburn was mediocre.

Dline doesnt get many tackles in general. None of our dts or des had alot of tackles or sacks this year. Still had a top 20 defense, and those des were set starters on it. Some of portal is for depth as well. Not going to hit on every kid. Anderson was the big whiff for sure. Sharp was most disappointing for me. He played so many snaps, had so many chances blocking and receiving and was just terrible all around.

Brown was not a whiff. He was every bit as good as advertised. How many times did we throw it deep to him? A guy with blazing speed. It wasn't his fault he didn't have more yards/tds with the Oline, QB, and play calling we had.

Can you name all of the schools that had better transfer classes than LSU with no misses?

Sounds like a poor allocation of resources
Which was Austin Thomas’ job

Can you be more specific? I’m not familiar with their transfer class. Did they not miss on anybody?

D ends should have sacks.
Ours did not.
We paid for elite production.
We did not get it.
Poor use of resources.

Hasn’t translated to any on field success worth noting.

They found a qb from D2 who dwarfed our 4 million dollar man.
They got a transfer D ends who more than doubled the combined sacks of pyburn and Payton
And they had a WR who had as many yards as our transfer wide receivers combined.
They also had a 1000 + yard rusher as a transfer.
Much better talent though less highly rated

The whiff in the off season was Kelly and Davis inability to develop offensive line. They were handed w very good center and adequate rg that everyone wanted in the country. The fact we didnt develop 3 other staters.. and 2 backups to support in avg levels, is why the team and offense had the season it had. We didnt develop the oline, and it made our offense this hitch, screen, incapable unit that couldn't call plays that go beyond 3 secs to develop. And we couldn't run bc of it, or wouldn't commit to it bc of that fear. Not every de is going to be a 10 sack guy, but they were decent starters in sec. Wes, keys, and Perkins against run heavy teams were the eye sores. Pyburn play declined when he hurt his shoulder. Payton was solid and had alot of good flashes, didnt get the sack #'s though. He was held a ton against vandy, atm, bama, but didnt get calls alot.
Oline was the downfall, and it fell on davis and Kelly.
When I think whiff i think the atm cb, Syracuse cb, etc year where every kid felt like a bust. Forced us into starting 3 star true fr in the sec in many spots.

We had equal returning talent on the d line.
Many people called out the fact that we didn’t take an experienced tackle to shore up the Oline to make sure it would gel.
Even in a best case scenario where you hit on development of all 3 other spots the “general manager” and reported architect of the portal class watched all of 2024 and decided to go into the season with our number 1 back up across the entire O line to be dj Chester.
Yet people will always trumpet that “number 1 portal class”

Oh.
See when I think of whiff I think paying $20 million dollars for a roster and not ensuring that we have an adequate o line is a poor allocation of resources and a sign we need to move on
We didn’t try to “see if the true freshman DTS and d ends from 2024 develop”
We went out and paid for guys who were supposed to be elite at that position
