Republican Rep. Elise Stefanik said Friday that she is ending her campaign for New York governor and will not run for re-election to her House seat next year.

In a lengthy post to X, Stefanik, a staunch ally of President Donald Trump, wrote that she had "not come to this decision lightly for our family."

She was a hot name for the future as the youngest rep at the time. Really haven’t heard much of her the last few years.

They sure are dropping out and retiring at a brisk pace.

Wonder if she would be a running mate to JDV or Rubio. She still has a good reputation. Maybe something going on at home.

It’s open season on Republicans. Especially in a Blue State. Politics is becoming a dangerous job for Conservatives.

She probably shouldnt have gone off on Speaker Johnson (like MTG did) and people wouldnt have abandoned her

Lets not forget she was a Paul Ryan wannabe, before she attached herself to Trump. She didnt get his endorsement (sound familiar) and now shes quitting (same sex, different state). Heres the receipts
quote:

It was a surprising turn for someone who won her seat campaigning as a moderate millennial — a Paul Ryan protegé with deep establishment credentials. But now she’s gone full Trump, embracing his Big Lie about election fraud. It’s helped rocket her to the GOP leadership, replacing Wyoming’s Liz Cheney

quote:

Stefanik has gone absolutely ballistic on Johnson in the most public way during this dispute, saying the speaker was lying about her and instructing him to “fix this” – in other words, get the provision into the bill. Stefanik said Johnson was “blocking” her policy and the speaker was getting “rolled” by Democrats.

quote:

Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) announced Friday that she was suspending her bid for New York governor and would also be retiring from Congress. Her announcement came shortly after a fellow ally of President Trump jumped into the primary.

This. Another emotional move by a female.

Someone dug up some dirt on her and gave her an ultimatum - drop out or else. At least that's my guess.

I’m surprised she didn’t resign. She wants no part of what is coming when dems take control and weaponization is back and on steroids.

She was down 20 points in a recent poll. Hochul would demolish her. NY ain’t voting GOP. She probably would lose her seat anyway since 2026 will be a wave year for the Democrats.

Yeah that district is like a +10 R on bad years. Her seat was safe.

This is what I’m thinking too. They have something on her & she was threatened so she dropped out. This happened too fast.

Not eyeing this race, so I'm in the dark here but the report I saw was that Stefanik was "within a few points" of Hochul, but when I did a search of a potential Hochul vs Stefanik race, the margin was still 19+ for Hochul.

What's missing from this equation, if anything

this is true in a lot more instances that people know...it would be the same if you or I were in the position....someone gets dirt on you that would damage you and/or your family...they have you.

However, the nut jobs on here will be screaming about sinking ships and rats.

Might be as simple as trump offered her another job and she figured she wouldn’t win in 2026

She was probably having money issues. Donors weren’t giving her money because they didn’t think she could win.
