Seeing Speith blow it and that one and done limey Willet get the jacket still annoys me to this day.

Patrick Reed’s win over Spieth and Fowler wasn’t much fun either

I don't know why but it always bugs me when some journeyman wins a major. Totally different with every other sport where it's fun to root for the underdog, but for some reason feel different about golf.

I have it in a 3 way tie with the Holocaust and Skittles changing from Lime to Green Apple.

Speith shouldn't have choked.

And there were 92 other golfers that had a chance to stop Willet as well. They all failed to do so.

Willet got the jacket because he played good enough to earn it.

I think it's because you want the event you are watching to have significance when you recall it later in life. Nobody is telling their kids how they watched Ben Curis win the open in 03. You are going to tell the story of how Bryson clipped a long bunker shot to about 4 feet on the 72nd hole then made the putt to beat Rory.

In team sports, the fandom is different because your fandom is perpetual (for the most part). So, much of what you watch goes back to the team you root for. That doesn't really happen in golf.

Having said all that, the way a major is won can change all of that. Willet winning is memorable because of Spieth's choke. Same can be said for how Shaun Micheel won the PGA.

Journeyman golfer can be a fun story if the guy is cool.

Golf fandom is weird sometimes. You can go from liking a guy to not liking a guy really quick. It's because golf reveals so much about a person. Yall think Wyndham Clark has any fans left? People hate Pat Reed, but if he puts on the USA hat it's a different story.

I was pulling for Justin Rose at the Masters this year because he played tough as nails. Im not usually a Justin Rose fan.

I pulled for Tom Watson when he was old as frick trying to win that major. I usually think he's a prick.

Golf is weird. Up is down. Left is right.

I will forever tell the story of Van de Velde having a mental meltdown on the 72nd hole at Carnoustie in 1999, but I had to Google who actually won the tournament (Paul Lawrie)
