What should we take note of this time around?

When we hired BK, we all heard the criticism from ND fans: he’s reactive as a coach, has trouble winning big games, players don’t like him and don’t want to play hard for him. At the time, we wrote this off as ND fans being butt-hurt. Maybe some were true, some weren’t. For the ones that were true, we rationalized things like “he’ll win bigger games with better recruits.” And “maybe he’s not a player’s coach, but they’ll like winning games” etc, etc. Well, we should have listened to them, they were right about it all.
So my next question is, yes, Ole Miss fans are also butt-hurt and are lashing out, but are there any legit criticisms on their end that we should consider about Kiffin? Criticisms that we should have considered about BK from ND fans?
And don’t say “oh what we think doesn’t matter”. That’s just intellectually lazy and also untrue.
I’ll go first: I think Kiffin’s hyper-active social media presence and trolling could get annoying. For example, I could see us dropping a key game (it happens) because our defense got railed or something, and then the next day he’s posting some dumb meme and/or trolling on X like a teenager like he doesn’t have shite to figure out with his team. I could see that getting annoying. What do yall think?
Also, fully understand the flood of downvotes that are incoming because reasonable questions like this are not allowed to be brought up if even ever so slightly negative towards Kiffin.

What we said about him (and others as well) before he came here was that he has never won anything of note or record but that is not entirely accurate.
LK won conference at FAU and SECCG/NC's at Bama as an OC. He flamed out at his early jobs but his track record from Bama since has been on the upward trend.

The most telling thing in my opinion is that Bama is butt hurt they didn't hire him after Saban’s retirement. Second most telling is that none of the loud media members who are “against the hire” have bad football-related insights for him here. Portnoy is exhibit A, he was totally against LSU’s hire but wants him at UM.
I think he will be excellent, but I also thought BK would win big here. I think the difference will be motivation. BK was looking forward to retirement; Lane wants to exceed Saban.

This is your sign it was a good hire.
ND fans were laughin...ole miss fans are pissed

He doesn't have a great track record against top opponents (a lot of people dont)
The social media stuff and his indecisiveness comes off like a teenage girl
He makes some questionable calls in regards to game management (4th downs)
It's not as hard to win at Ole Miss as it was 10 years ago, though he deserves a lot of credit for that.
His defenses tend to be weak and soft, but retaining Baker helps with this for now
Next year is going to be very difficult just because it's year 1 and he has a really tough schedule. And I expect his defenses will most likely get worse after Baker leaves so he needs to win soon. Those are the criticisms and they're pretty indisputable. He may very well overcome those as he seems to still be growing as an HC and hes hungry but for now those are the issues

But especially this. Even though I don’t think it’s realistic to expect Kiffin to ever get to that level. Probably ends up in the NFL after a natty or two.

If you're talking about warnings. I think the most common one is that he probably won't stay.
But I don't really know what we can do about that except hire bad coaches that nobody wants. I see this as par for the course if you want to be a championship contender.

Yeah really your only chances at this is hoping that some of your alumni get really good at coaching, or someone like Baker who is a local. Or someone who has already tried the NFL and doesn't like it (Saban).
There's a very small chance, but still a chance, that Kiffin leaves for the NFL after a few years and Baker becomes the next HC and kills it and never leaves. Maybe there's also a chance that Kiffin wins a natty here and goes to the NFL, flames out, and then comes back. Maybe there's also a very small that Kelvin Sheppard decides to give cfb a try and comes here after Kiffin. Idk. The stars really have to align to get a guy like Smart who is a great coach and is also unattainable to everyone else

They’re attacking character & off field stuff, not coaching
Also, the OM admins did everything possible to keep LK

Good post with a reasonable question. This board is mostly morons which is the reason you have more downvotes than up.
Kiffin will be Kiffin. He will likely coach the occasional frustrating game that will make fans grit their teeth. But the difference between CLK and CBK? Kiffin is a proven big winner in the SEC.
So like Kelly, we can say of Kiffin: give this guy LSU’s resources and the sky is the limit. I thought CBK would be a more cerebral if a little less disciplined Saban. Nobody foresaw him checking out and the 400 rounds of golf, etc.
I don’t see that with Kiffin. As far as his tweeting and eccentricity? Just like Les’s goofy personality and Orgeron being a general moron, just win big and those are endearing traits. Don’t meet expectations? Then yeah, it’s a problem.
Again, the guy is a proven big winner in the SEC and an offensive mastermind at a school with far less resources than LSU.
LSU fans have every right to be excited about the upcoming Kiffin regime.

LSU needed someone to pull us out of that shite hole and Kelly was the right coach to do that.

And am excited!
Can't get over the leaving us when things get good though. I know I'll get blasted for saying that, it just feels too good to be true and I'm not used to having good things happen
No this is not a doomsday or the sky is falling post.

To the “he won’t stay” crowd: where’s he gonna go in college that’s a step up? Bama? Why? he’d be in Sabans shadow no matter how good he does. And LA recruiting is better than Bama. No other state schools to compete with and closer to TX.
NFL: he did that and realized very quickly he didn’t have the control they said he would. I don’t think he’s gonna go back to NFL and not have full control of a team with GMs and Owners being in control.
Just my opinion from watching a lot of the things he says: he wants to be legendary in the vein of Saban and Carrol. LSU is his best shot at that. NFL is more fickle than college with firing coaches and a lot less control. Unless there’s some kind of scandal no one can foresee (looking at you Sheronne) I think he’s here for a decade easy. He’ll have all the financial support and control a coach could ask for, fertile recruiting grounds, and the best home crowd and stadium in sports to affect games.
When he’s left jobs it was either being fired
Raiders- it’s the frickin raiders with senile Al Davis and he was made to draft Jamarcus
USC- went 10-2 under Reggie bush sanctions and fired after a rough early season start
Or he went to the next step up in his career
Tenn to USC
Bama OC to FAU
FAU to ole piss
Ole Piss to LSU
Where else is there to go?

I'm very concerned about his frustration leading to over aggressiveness.
A couple times per year he seems to want to go for 4th and short after a 3 and out on his own side of the field. Maybe he (rightfully) did not trust Golding's defense to get a stop.

Or he knew his teams were inferior and he needed to have extra chances so I’ll lean towards your latter point on the defense.

That's not why you'll get a flood of downvotes. The tone of your OP is why you're getting downvotes; it comes across as someone looking for a reason to dislike this hire.
Most of what you said about Kelly was said here before he was ever hired, and most of what was said when initial rumors about Kelly surfaced was that LSU had no chance to lure Kelly away from ND.
Everyone here also knows what Kiffin is like on social media. Most here do not really care.
The primary concern that Ole Miss fans had about Kiffin, other than his leaving Ole Miss for greener pastures, is his propensity to take risks when it is not necessary or advisable. Like going for it on 4th down on his side of the field in a game they are leading, especially late in the game. That is my concern, but I understand it is part of the package with a guy like Lane.

The ND fans criticism of Kelly was stupid and non-sensical bullshite and those things listed had nothing to do with why Kelly failed here. He averaged MORE than 10 wins a regular season his last 5 yrs there. If Kelly does that here we are preparing for a playoff run.
Kelly was fired because he DIDNT do what he did at ND which was win 10 games a season.

Without delving too much into this, Ol Miss fans wanted and loved Kiffen even while we were in the process of taking him. It wasn’t until a few weeks into negotiation when reality started sinking in that he hasn’t shut down the talk yet.
The biggest gripe I’ve seen is that he’s too Ballsy in his 4th down play calling.

1.) His record against teams with a pulse is not great.
2.) I will never, ever forget his face and mannerisms last year in Tiger Stadium. He looked absolutely lost and panicky on the sideline as the game got away from him. I feel like LSU won because Kiffin crumbled under the pressure.
