Lisbon is a great town with amazing food . I would stay there 4 or 5 days with a day trip to Sinatra to see the palace. Then head to Porto which is on par with Lisbon but smaller and less hilly, for 3 days. Walking around Lisbon the hills will kick your arse.
Trains from Portugal to Spain are almost nonexistent or very slow so fly somewhere. Barcelona is great, SAN Sebastian as well. The other great Spanish cities are very hot in the summer but if you are there in spring or fall then Valencia and Grenada are great.

Spain and Morocco are both very cheap, very short flights from major airports in Portugal.

3 days in Lisbon, rental car to Algarve for 6 days, drive over to Seville, Spain for 2 days, drive back to Lisbon and catch a train to Porto for 2 nights. Spend the last night in Lisbon for an easy trip to the airport. All of the above in less time and aggravation than it takes on a normal drive from Baton Rouge to Houston.

Sure, I was just naming a few. I like Madrid too, mainly because the best overall food I've had in Spain, which has great food everywhere, was in Madrid. Went to 3 or 4 tapas bars each of two nights there and they all blew me away.

Been to Spain and Portugal twice in the last two years.

--agreed with going to Porto. Great waterfront area where the Douro River hits the Atlantic. Also hit the Douro Valley wine country by train or boat.

--You're close to Andalucia (southern Spain region). Sevilla, Cordoba, Granada--you can't go wrong. We loved Malaga on the Mediterranean coast.

Once you're in Spain you can high-speed train between any major cities.

14 days is a long time, but I disagree with people on here that are including Spain in that. Just enjoy Portugal. Spain should be its own trip!!

4 days in Lisbon with at least a day exploring Sintra, maybe 1 in a place like Cascais

3 days in the Algarve relaxing, add in extra if you want to make a side trip to Gibraltar or something like that

4-5 days in Porto with at least a day in the Duero Valley

at least 1-3 days exploring some of the towns in between Lisbon and Porto like Obidos, Nazare, Fatima, etc

PLENTY to see and do in Portugal

Because of the surfing or is the town cool on its own? We watched that doc and enjoyed it.
