Sounds like a great hire for a special teams analyst

It was a statistically productive 2024 season on special teams for Florida, as the unit ranked second in the nation in both the ESPN SP+ and FEI Special Teams rankings. The Gators also tied for the national lead in fewest blocked kicks and blocked punts allowed, ranked 11th in net punting (42.37) and 18th in punt returns (13.36). During the 2024 season, Rocco Underwood won the Mannelly Award for the best long snapper in the nation and earned Second-Team All-America accolades from the AFCA and Second-Team All-SEC

Punter Jeremy Crawshaw was named a Reese's Senior Bowl All-American after finishing fifth in the nation in punting (45.7). Kicker Trey Smack ended the season ranked 24th in the country in field goal percentage (.857). hitting 18-of-21 field goals, with a long of 55.

Chances that Gaston’s kid transfers to LSU now? This was his coach in Gainesville right?

I just want a ST group that can consistently:

1) Pressure punters and block several
2) keep teams pinned inside the 20
3) Pressure FGs and block several.
4) master as couple of 4th down trick plays

I think we have only blocked like 4 punts in the last 20 years. Also I don’t recall us blocking a FG since 2021 against Auburn. Our special teams has been fricking horrible lately.

I remember LSU blocking an Arkansas FG attempt in 2022 to keep Arkansas from tying the game. The ball continued past the LOS but didn't even reach the goal post in the air. The guy came off the edge and was a secondary starter for LSU...Jay Ward I believe it was.

I think that was 2020 or did it happen again in the 2022 game? Also Jay Ward is one of the most underrated playmakers we’ve had.

if you mean he will over pay another coach to come to LSU, you are right on. That is what Woodward taught him and that is his only negotiating method, pay more than anyone else, regardless of how much.

You might be right about 2020. Originally, I did a quick scan of the series because I know it was @Arkansas and I know it was right at the end of the game and I know it would have tied the game. What I did NOT know is LSU won the 2020 game by 3 points and won the 2022 game by 3 points. So if you think it was 2020 instead of 2022, I'll take your word for it. Good memory.
