I am trying to expand our dinner choices, which is why I am asking these questions. Has any bought these big arse shrimp? They look like they would be great on the grill. Not crazy about the idea of farm-raised, which is why I am asking. Thanks.

And often farm raised is from China or Vietnam. I was at Kroger the other day and they had wild caught red snapper for a really good price. Had to search for it but it was from China.

Yea you have to be careful with anything farmed. Read the back and see where it came from. Their farming practices in Asia are subpar at best.

Has anyone tried Prime Shrimp? I think it's the Laitram people behind it and the shrimp are from South America. We bought some and they were good.

I use them to make bacon wrapped shrimp for grill. Jalapeño sliver and then wrap with bacon. Some steak seasoning and then garlic butter brushed. Legit.

Eh. Farm raised is quality protein. It may not be ideal bc the Gulf is right there!
But it’s still a good/semi organic product. Enjoy the price break or move along to your closest market where you have to take their word for it

Have seen this first hand in China.
1. Grain is fed to the pigs....pigs poop.
2. Geese eat grain from pig poop...geese poop.
3. Goose poop is washed into the shrimp/crawfish/crab/etc. pond and shrimp/crawfish/crab/etc. eat what is left of the grain from the pig/goose poop.

I mean I get where you’re coming from in the sense that most aquaculture is terrible…but let’s not act like shrimp in the wild behave wildly differently in terms of diet.
They are bottom feeding scavengers.

Kinda like going to circle K for coffee in Lafayette and avoiding the drive thru coffee shops on just about every corner. Buy Gulf Shrimp...like Kiffin says...it's just different and taste better!

I was more interested because of the size.

I only buy my shrimp from the Westwego fish market.
Fresh every time. Usually 16/20s

Did anyone try them? They are the size of a baby's arm. I've never seen anything like that caught locally but I'm not very educated on it.
