The absolute classic "what could have been" story. Bo Rein checked all the boxes - relatable, driven, smart,, innovator, motivator. He redefined offenses at that time. He was CLK before CLK was born. He was very Saban like in his approach. He may very well have redefined LSU football for decades.

Check out "The Bo You Don't Know" on YouTube.

Hoping to watch it later.
Some other Bo Rein tidbits:
He was a RB at OSU, playing for Woody Hayes.
He was a standout out baseball player at OSU, playing SS and LF. He made CWS tourn team 2 years and lead OSU to it's only CSW championship
He was a member of the Lou Holtz coaching tree.
Was youngest college HC ever when he was hired at NCSU.
More details if you're interested.
Like many LSU fans, I've always wondered what LSU football would've been like had he coached there.

Bo Rein signed 7 players on NSD. When we would sign 40-45 at the time. Let’s just say the jury was still out

He was hired eight days before signing day. Signing day used to be by conference and in the SEC it was the second Saturday of each December. This held until 1981. He was hired on Friday, November 30.

is Rein pronounced like "Ryan" or is it pronounced like "Reign"?

I just watched some of the documentary on him, I guess its "Rhine" like the river.

Too soon was us drunks in the student section yelling “Hey its time…to bring back Bo Rein!” When Stovall’s team was struggling.

Many or maybe most here were not yet born when Bo Rein's plane veered then crashed into the Atlantic Ocean. Those that were alive perhaps discounted, never realized or simply forgot just how seismic, significant of an effect his shocking & "untimely" death not only Had on LSU's Football program @ the time, but for decades Would continue to have.

Bo Rein was indeed a WHALE of a Coach & Hire for LSU! And it was not just the sudden, tragic circumstances surrounding his catastrophic death that was so traumatizing to LSU's Athletic Dept & Fan Base, but the truly unfortunate "timing" of when it occurred that left LSU & their Football Program/Team in an insurmountable, disadvantaged position!

Make no mistake.......the tragic, sudden death of Bo Rein who, irrefutably, was Highly Touted, Celebrated, Recognized throughout the College & Professional Football Industry as a Stellar - Supreme Coach & Individual would "haunt" LSU for many years!

I will never forget it.

Rein was considered:

"One of the most promising young coaches IN FOOTBALL HISTORY"!

To the many Negatigers here who have been all to quick, frequent to disparage our great Institution.

LSU secured Bo Rein. Discovered Nick Saban (considered the Greatest ever). And just held a Master Class, performed & executed a Nationwide Coup in grabbing Lane Kiffen.

LSU is a Multi Sport DYNASTY!

There is NO Place, No Stadium, No Fans that Rival LSU!

LSU is THE #1 Job & #1 Stadium & #1 Opportunity & Environment in Collegiate Sports!

And that's not just a loyal Tiger Fan stating it, but was just confirmed Loud & Clear across All/Every MSM Channel, National Network - Cable TV Broadcast, Radio, Sports Writer/Journalist', Hall of Fame Coaches, Independent Internet Podcasts, etc. etc while announcing, covering 24/7 Lane Kiffen as LSU's new Football Coach!

As have I, I have to admit at the time I was skeptical. He was a Veer guy, which was not uncommon back then, but I was not a fan.
