As a bama fan, I am confused over BYU punished Bama not punished

I was so worried about making it didn’t pay attention to this. This definitely on the surface doesn’t seem right unless I’m not understanding. They were 11 last week in the cfp right? Bama was 9. So on the premise that bama would get smoked and stay at 9, byu should have remained at 11th all things equal. Is that right? Considering tech and Georgia on paper are even. And if so what would that have done given JMU and Tulane? Am I missing something in this thought process?

No I realize that exists probably but is the 9 and 11 ranking thing correct? Or did sometime else cause the move?

Bama beat Georgia already, so losing to them still makes them 1-1 against a top 3 type of team. Harder to punish Bama for losing to a team they already beat.

Probably because BYU got boatraced by the same team twice and Alabama did beat Georgia earlier this season.

I read a stat that 86/88 conference championship losers dropped after losing in the conference championship game. Alabama yesterday was the 2nd one not to drop (despite laying a turd on the field in Atlanta and losing by 21 - and it was not even that close).
