ND just went to the corner and started sucking their thumb even though they sucked all year and lost head to head against the team that got in over them. The only hope they have of being in the top 12 next year and being guaranteed a spot in the CFP is that they start high, play their typical pussy schedule, and only lose a couple of times. So why not make it to where if a team opt out of the bowl they cannot start in the AP top 25 the next year?

Im shocked their athletic department was fine with leaving like 8-9 million on the table

That is the payoff for their likely bowl

Conferences fine schools for opting out of Bowl games.

It’s something at least. Or fine them somehow. I think they’re scared that they’ll have to play a third decent team this year and lose…again

No cap this is weak. I understand the frustration of Young GOAT Freeman but this ain’t it.

How about if you opt out of a bowl the previous year you can't got to a bowl/playoff the following year. Could always be an exemption like with coaching changes or something drastic. Hurt feelings aren't drastic though.

Are you really that worried about the Cheez It Bowl?

The bowl season is fruit withering on the vine. Fans will quit traveling to watch the second and third team play a glorified postseason scrimmage. The only way to stop the bleed is to give incentive for star athletes to hang around or expand the playoffs and incorporate the current bowls into it.

They want to see a ND team with 20% of it's roster after opt outs, lose to a team playing like it is the Super Bowl

Like when FSU got left out a while back

So then they can say ND didn't belong.

You don’t need a bowl game with opt outs to know they didn’t belong. You could see that when they lost to A&M at home and a shite Miami team on the road. Not to mention the rest of the junior high teams they played the rest of the year

The Cheez It Bowl deserves better than the SoMuch Lame Cowardin’ Irish.

Just get rid of the nonplayoff bowl games.

No one cares

They did what was asked of them to do. ND didn’t. Maybe they should join a conference and quit pretending they’re special. They have the same amount of titles that JMU and Tulane have in the last 4 decades

This is a great one. Financial penalty wont matter because the players are making NIL money now

Do you think Tulane or JMU is a better team than Notre Dame? Notre Dame would have destroyed either of those Charmin soft conferences. Notre Dame is penalized for playing good teams, and some JV squad gets in because they play nobody?

What is the point of the playoff?

I thought it was to make the best teams settle it on the field?

JMU and Tulane, but no ND means you don't have the best teams.

Maybe ND should just schedule American and CUSA squads for all 12-games.
