Is finishing #5 the best for CFB Playoff

As great as a bye sounds, I want to host a home playoff game. Finishing #5 means you are likely playing one of the worst at-large teams or an automatic qualifier from a lower conference. Win that and your QF against the lowest ranked team with a bye. Obviously, have to play 1-seed after that, but still think hosting a game is worth it.

Can anything happen today that makes Ole Miss drop so that they don’t get a layup in the 1st round?

No way to know until seeing the final seeding.

No. They deserve a good seed

#5 and missing the conference championship is ideal.

I disagree. Assume you lose in the semifinal either way..
Is having played for and won an SEC title better than winning nothing?

I believe the bye is better. This late in the season gets you more rest and time for players to heal from any minor injuries they might have. Although your likely playing in a conference championship game in you’re in top 4 unless your name is notre dame.
The field needs to be min. 16 teams with no conference championship games and no automatic bids.

They should just scrap the bowls and let the higher ranked team play at home all the way through the semifinals, a la the NFL. The championnship game, like the Superbowl, could still be held at a nuetral site. Would minimize travel and expense for the fans, while providing a real advantage for higher seeds.
Imagine a national championship semi-final in TS.

I’ve always thought it ridiculous that the top seeds don’t host a playoff game. Bye or not, you root for a lower seed for a home game.
CFP committee needs to fix this.

Last year, #8 won the playoffs. Ohio State.
1) No conference title game, that was Oregon-Penn State. That was their bye week to rest and get healthy.
2) First round game at home, build momentum. They killed Tennessee in a night game, came out on a roll.
Funny enough, the team Ohio State played in the final was Notre Dame. No conference championship, because no conference. Hosted a first round game at night (Indiana).Played and beat UGA in the second rd, UGA was out of rhythm on D and had lost their QB in the SEC title game.
