Austin Simmons future outlook

His father did an interview with a University of Miami podcast
Nevin Shapiro Show
Start watching from 6:30 minute mark.
Spent a LOT of time defending LK and talking up LSU.
His dad is a coach and seems deeply involved with Austin’s path. Meanwhile he talks about CFB as a pure business decision (“goal is the NFL”) while acknowledging the entire offensive staff at OM left for LSU.
“Do you have a personal preference of where you would like him to be?”
“A group of three (schools)”
Doesn’t at all sound like Simmons is staying in Oxford.
Also has deep ties with Miami. But seems to me if LK wants him & the money is right, good bet he’s a Tiger.

Let Lane decide if he is the weasel he appears to be

I’ll embed that video for you:
Like the dad says, Austin would be plug-&-play.

Kid underwhelmed before his injury. Why would LSU take him?

I think he is a take if kiffin doesn't get who he wants....Simmons may know the offense. But it will be better qbs in the portal to choose from over Simmons. Just being honest

He played 1.5 games before his injury. First game they throttled a sun belt team like they should have. 2nd game he played okay yardage wise but did throw 2 picks. Then Trinidad took over and that was all she wrote.
He’s clearly talented. Ball really jumps out of his hand. But not sure you give him a guaranteed starting spot.

Because they are going to take 2 portal QBs, possibly three.

Well they won’t if Kiffin doesn’t believe in his ability.
But if he recruits him a second time, who would any of us be to argue with his talent eval?

How did he throw 5 picks in 1.5 games?
He threw 4tds to 5 picks in the 2 games he started in 2025. I didn't watch either game .

His first starts as a college starter. He also threw for nearly 580 yards in those two games.
I’d throw out all the stats. TBD if he’s the real deal but he definitely passes the eye test.

I remember watching the first half of the Kentucky game...had a couple of really bad INT's early. He's got kind of a long throwing motion but he's pretty accurate and he runs well. Havent really watched enough of him to pick his game apart but I'm sure CLK has seen enough of him to make the correct eval. Chambliss is better in most aspects from what I've seen, and that is surely why CLK kept him as starter over Simmons.

Yeah, people aren’t seeing the forest through the trees. I would prefer Leavitt saying no first but I love Austin already knowing Kiffin’s offense and he’s undeniably talented.

He threw 4 in his 2 starts. Very confident with his arm because he’s got a cannon and the linebackers got him when going over the middle. When he wasn’t throwing picks he moved the offense really well.
Simmons is a potential play, just like some of these G5 guys and even someone like Bailey. Very talented, has shown flashes but not quite proven at the SEC level. Those guys are hard to come by.

If Kiffin thinks he’s a take, that’s why you take him. Pretty damn simple.

He’s shown flashes on the field and knows that system. We need at least two QBs from the portal (assuming MVB stays) and he may not cost a boatload to follow his old coach.

Honestly, LSU needs more than 1 QB in the portal because there’s only one scholarship QB right now. Take him as a backup
