I do think he is right in the beginning on schedule strength. They want to adopt the NFL Playoff model while still using the same conference and schedule set up. It doesn’t work and conference championship games will be gone soon.

Brilliant. And look at the CLOWNS who decide who's in and who's out.
Did you see the photograph?

I agree. Conference championship teams are in and play for the conference title while other border teams play each other to see who gets in. You can get crazy and call them bowl games and get rid of the charade that we currently call bowl games now.

No that's not what he wants. He wants a fair and unbiased 12 team playoff.
And here you are.............." Oh no thanks , I can't be bothered with it because I'm so important." stfu Rosebud

I think this is a fantastic idea. And, it doesn't elongate the season any.

SOS is not a great indicator, it depends on when you play a team, who they played the week before, week after, etc.? Take this season, we beat Clemson in their valley ??, I truly think it F'd their season up? Too many variables but I guess AI will tell us what to do soon or look at the teams and tell us who will win ! I hope not but...

Yeah with 5-6 extra “play in” games. That’s just an expanded playoff

While that is an insane number, you almost need something larger if we will continue. There are 136 football teams. NFL has 32 and they have more playoffs. Granted someone will always be mad about not making it, but I like the idea of some wild card or something. Def need more conferences.... This way you can get the best of the best out of each conference. When you only play half of your conference, how can you determine who's best?

I posted this in the other Gruden thread

quote:

We had people bitching when the polls named their NC

We had people bitching when the Bowl Coalition determined the NC

We had people bitching when the Bowl Alliance determined the NC

We had people bitching when the BCS determined the NC

We had people bitching when a 4 team playoff determined the NC

We have people bitching now that it’s a 12 team format to determine the NC

If they go to 16 teams, guess what’s gonna happen?

A 20 team playoff…want to take a guess?

So what. extends the season, more games to watch........more drama....more excitement. It's a win win for college football. Now what do you have against that? How is it that you're a fan, yet, want less games, a shorter season? Explain this.

It’s great ideas and makes a lot of sense.

But what made CFB great was that it didn’t always make sense. It didn’t have to.

CFB is about school pride, school spirit. It’s about cultural expression and educational identity. It’s about rivalries, regional and even state rivalries.

As CFB exploded in popularity, the NC and “true” champion was always a bit of an after thought. “We’ll figure it out later” was the mantra.

That’s why the Iron Bowl and The Game were often bigger games on the schedule than an NC appearance.

Let the media guys figure out the story of the season. The players and fans were going to cheer with the band and root for their team to beat their opponent in the meantime.

So, great ideas, Gruden. I wholeheartedly agree if we wanted CFB to be like all the other sports.

I did. It is incredible to believe they know anything about football. What they will do in the playoffs is make sure the SEC teams play each other to prevent an all SEC semis or finals.

Every team in the CFP must play the same amount of games. There is no reason teams should get byes because they were not good enough to play in their conference championship game.

I hate how we use to argue about who was #2 or #3, then we said once we have a 4 team playoff we’ll never argue again, then we argued about #4 and #5, then we said once we have a 12 team playoff we’ll never argue again, now we are asking for a expanded playoff mitigate arguing.

Is there a level of playoff dilution where the madness ends?
