Young Marrero mother, a US citizen, chased by Border Patrol in viral confrontation

One day after U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents chased a 23-year-old mother near her West Bank home — an encounter captured on video that went viral across the country — the young woman, still shaken, recounted how the confrontation began.

Jacelynn said she was walking home from a Marrero corner store on Wednesday at around 3:30 p.m. when an SUV stopped beside her. At first, she thought it was an Uber.

Within seconds, a man wearing a mask and sunglasses stepped out and approached. Jacelynn, who asked that her last name not be used out of fear of retaliation, quickly realized he was a federal immigration agent.

“Come here, ma’am,” she recalled him saying. “Ma’am, come here.”

Another man then got out of the vehicle, and a second van arrived. Jacelynn said she told the agents twice that she was an American citizen before she turned and ran, shouting for them to leave her alone as she rushed through the gate and into her parents' home.

Her father, Juan Carlos Anglin, said Border Patrol agents stood outside the home for five to 10 minutes. He had been watching his granddaughter inside the house when he heard the screams.

"I thought she was getting kidnapped," he said.

Juan Carlos Anglin said he went outside and confronted the agents, who told him they were looking for a woman and held up a photograph of a person who appeared to be a decade older than his daughter.

“We’re Brown — they assume we live illegally here, so that's why I'm concerned,” Juan Carlos Anglin said Thursday night. “Because I feel at this point, this is not going to be the last time. It's going to keep happening."
