Some of these schools like Melissa and Celina are on borrowed time because those districts are being overrun by Indians who likely wont be interested in playing football

Daughter attends Smithson Valley.
They're trying to go back to back.
Already beaten New Braunfels once this season. Should do it again.

Why have classes and divisions?

Why have classes and divisions?
Sheer number of schools
I still think too many teams make it though. In 6A (maybe 5A too) 4 teams from each district make it. Regardless of the order of finish, the top 2 enrollments are D1 and the other 2 are D2.
I think below 5A they divide up by enrollment before the season.

It’s all done on enrollment numbers. Your mega schools are 6A Division 1, and we work down from there. The divisions just separate it even further. There’s a shitload of schools in the state.

It's all divided by enrollment:
Football divisions by enrollment
Class 6A: The largest schools, with over 2,275 students.
Class 5A:
Division I: Enrollment between 1,903 and 2,274 students.
Division II: Enrollment between 1,315 and 1,902 students.
Class 4A:
Division I: Enrollment between 957 and 1,314 students.
Division II: Enrollment between 545 and 956 students.
Class 3A:
Division I: Enrollment between 369 and 544 students.
Division II: Enrollment between 254 and 368 students.
Class 2A:
Division I: Enrollment between 181.5 and 253 students.
Division II: Enrollment between 105 and 181.4 students.
Class 1A:
Division I: Enrollment between 61.5 and 104.9 students.
Division II: Enrollment of 61.4 students or below.
But why don't they just have 10 divisions or 2A-11A?
They're trying to obfuscate how many separate trophies they have
For the record, I have no issue having that many divisions, they're just classified awkwardly.

Smithson Valley crushed my school in the 2002 playoffs. That’s a damn good program. Nice seeing Coach Hill get his title last year, and I’d love to see them go B2B.

It’s a giant state with school enrollments for football playing schools ranging from like 20 kids to 7,000 kids.

You missed the point.

I got it after I read your follow up post.
Until last year the classes were spilt into divisions for football only, so I guess it was a way of avoiding confusion

Carthage always seems to be there. Impressive program for a pretty much isolated Texas town.

Texas is where I played high school ball and it always blows my mind that privates and publics compete in the same divisions in other states
In Texas the even the best private schools would get their doors blown off by an average public. My school went 3-7 my senior year but we scrimmage a private who won the TAPPS state title and we destroyed them
Where in most other states its the opposite the privates dominate

Should be a good game, will LT's defense finally get tested?

Game of the week right here. Two teams loaded with talent, great coaching, and everybody hates everybody -- players, coaches, parents, hell, even player's dogs probably hate the other team's pets.

Vamdegrift isn’t that good dripping springs will roll

Except for Strake Jesuit and Dallas Jesuit which are the only 2 private schools in the state that play UIL. Both hold their own very well in sports.

MOJO got blasted by Allen in the previous round. West Texas football in the big classifications is pretty much an also ran. Big classes are run by DFW, Houston, and Austin.
