Toughest test coming Sunday against TTU followed by SMU. That said, through 8 games all of the key NCAA selection metrics are at all time highs for McMahon. This team is easily the best offensive and most balanced, most size and most depth in his 4 years. Key rankings are (thru 12/3):

KenPom: #25
NET: #16
ESPN BPI: #35
ESPN SOR: #30
Bart Torvik: #34
KPI: #39

Tigers are playing efficient, pass the ball incredibly well and are rebounding ant an high clip. All of that leading to one of the most efficient offenses in the country through 8 games.

My only hope is if we lose to a ranked TTU team, the fans don't bail. SMU is a BIG game. That could be a great win at the end of the year. They're not a bad team at all.

They went cold last night, especially in the second half, but Dedan is special, and carried that game to OT

The fans haven't really jumped on board enough yet to "bail". If they beat Texas Tech that will pique the interest of some of those who don't really think anything about basketball until January. But a loss won't cause anyone to fall off the bandwagon.

Like most years over the last 30 years of so, the casual fans will start to take a look at the team in January when SEC play starts.

Shot like 16% from 3 last night, but they are shooting 36% on the season so far, so that game going to OT was a fluke. They normally would have score 9-12 points more.

If you would’ve told me we go into SEC play 12-1, I would’ve taken that. I don’t understand why anyone would think of that game as a must win.

I think most people just want to know if they’re for real or not, but we will find out in January

I'm not as concerned with beating Texas Tech as I am in how we compete with them. Naturally a win would be huge but if we compete and lose a close game that can also be a benefit going into SEC play especially if we can beat SMU.

If LSU looks totally outmatched then that will create concern that this start is likely just a byproduct of a weak schedule. But if it is a tight game throughout, even if it results in a loss, it will at least give more reason for optimism.

I remember the 05-06 season. LSU lost several close games in Nov/Dec to Houston, N. Iowa, Ohio St, Cincinnati. The LSU went to #2 UConn. They led most of the game and had a great defensive effort. That was Tyrus Thomas's coming out game. He had 7 blocks. LSU ended up losing by 1, but you came away from that game thinking "this could be a pretty good team." They were.

I'm not saying Tech is as good as that UConn team or that of LSU can be anywhere as good as that 2006 team. But sometimes you can see signs of good...even in a loss

The fans would attend games in December if there was a compelling opponent. UNO, Alcorn, Parie View aren't such opponents

BTW. I know it doesn't count as far as rankings but LSU did beat UCF in an exhibition game and UCF is currently #61 in Kenpom and with 7- 1 record with wins over TAM and Pitt. So it's not like LSU only played cupcakes early on. UNO is also a good team but just hasn't been able to beat a lot of teams other than TCU on the road who beat #10 FL.

Why with a window did we go from 19 to 25 Kenpom? I don't follow that but it was posted here two days ago?
