quote:

You have an emotional attachment to LSU. You cheer for LSU. You care about LSU. The players have always been a revolving door. Even before NIL/transfer era. It's the institution that has remained the constant for decades. Lose that goodwill and you lose everything.

Agreed! That's why I will watch LSU gymnastics or softball, yet never watch a minute of those sports on TV if LSU Is not playing. I love sports. I love LSU. I really love LSU sports.
So I looked it up, and the rule on professional athletes playing college basketball, went into effect August 1, 2010.

I thought it was 5 to 10 years ago, but it was 16 years ago. Just wanted to clarify what I said earlier.
Your Dale / Wade comparison is exactly why I’m fired up for the first time in a while. This honestly feels like the days of old — LSU may not have made it to the top during that time, but we were in the hunt every year once Dale got rolling. So many great memories!
Alt, I get what your distinctions are on the G league players….but even the examples you cite wouldn’t have been allowed 5-10 years ago. They would’ve been declared ineligible, and everything is changing faster than we can blink.

I want to have pity but I don’t. We knew exactly what was gonna happen if NIL was allowed. This was all foreseen and predicted.

What we need are adults to step in and balance the right of kids to be rewarded for their likeness making billions for schools all while ending the chaos.

I still don’t understand why transfers can’t be tied to academic performance. Sign with a team? You’re locked in until you hit your upper class (generally your third year but could be before). You’re locked in again until you graduate and then can move one last time.

Collect whatever you want in NIL but it has to be disclosed with a cap that encompasses *all* compensation to every athlete. Fair to everyone.

This is supposed to be *college* athletics.

Just a horrible call. Horrible!
Ha, never mind, you explained your post on the next page. *balefire*
"What I mean and it will sound harsh, even if Dedan Thomas and Max McKinnon were paid each $100 in cash and a couple of raising Canes gift cards in NIL to play here. It still would have been a hell no, how could anyone in the SEC choose those two and think a good result would come out of it."

Love your contributions to the board Coastrashtiger, but not following you on both DJ and Max. Are you saying they weren't SEC level players? Or just not a good fit together in CMM's "system" (such as it was)?
Just wanna say thanks to Coastrashtiger for the info. It's just fun reading about LSU basketball again!
CWW said he brought in (partially) Coach Jay Smith as player development because he has a track record of developing and improving bigs. I think we need to consider the fact that some of these players are coming for money, but some of them also want to get some development to showcase their talents for NBA scouts who can easily see them play in arenas all over the south.

Anybody else have knowledge of Coach Jay Smith's track record?

Drizz, you gotta watch the Tingle & Co vid, the part at 1:34:45 where CWW gets asked about a rumor that he bought the old house he had during the first go round. His response to that rumor is hilarious.

Sup, Drizz. All I gotta say is "we comin'"

Might be said in eight different languages next season, but that's even better. Today's game is international!

How do you say "Boot Up" in Taushiro?

I really enjoyed the interview. If CWW says he has “7-8 players” on the roster, and he’s hunting down one more, that’s good enough for me.

Year one is risky anyway. Put the chips all in for 8 top players, take flyers on 9-10 and then get practice / depth guys for the rest of the roster.

It’s worth the risk.
Holy cow that video got me juiced. This kid can ball.
That press conference was the wildest thing I've seen in the offseason in forever. Gotta admit, I am pumped. Is it November yet??
"I'm not retiring, I plan on to hire two coaches quickly, I plan to get in the portal and get two or three more players...there is no retiring. I think it's used a lot in recruiting."

Sounds definitive to me.
Do people really join an LSU message board and start topics without knowing ANYTHING about the subject? #baffled #worsttakes
I don't understand this post. I've been going to LSU games since the 80s, and we've always had that lull during the Christmas holidays -- ALWAYS -- when the students are gone, and people are focused on bowl games, holidays etc. We used to go every other year to the Alabama game when it was an early SEC scheduled game, and it was never full. We used to get tickets to see LSU play cream puffs even when Daddy Dale was coaching for cheap.

The fact that LSU sells 10k tickets but pulls in only 2500 fans for a game on Dec 27, 2026 against Mid State Tennessee Teacher's College will mean ASBOLUTELY nothing.

It would be great to be a 100% basketball school, but I'd much rather have a successful school than one that has 10k fans in Nov but finishes last in the SEC.
I was at that Arky game. The excitement in the PMAC was palpable. People were all high fiving each other saying, "maybe we can keep the winning going."

Good times.

I really can't think of another highlight off the top of my head. That's sad.
