How come all of our business savvy people manage LSU sports but not BR or the state?

It seems like if they can budget and raise funds for LSU sports at a high level and be successful they should be able to manage the city or even the state. Why aren’t these great minds running for mayor or governor?

you can extrapolate this all the way up to the white house

are best and brightest know there is more money and power outside of politics. Why run for office when you can just donate money to get what you want

When has the best and brightest ever wasted their talents on corrupt government?

Trump is probably the only example and no one other than him would be willing to put up with that level of bullshite.

There is more glory and less work in managing LSU sports. Managing Louisiana is on a whole other level.

I believe the word you’re looking for is “priorities”.

You can’t just go ask the governor of Mississippi if he wants to be governor of Louisiana.

I don't think I would describe what's been going on with coaching contracts at LSU as "business savvy". They just have several large donors that have been willing to fill the holes in order to see their team win. The athletic department hasn't exactly had to exercise a lot of fiscal restraint.

You're asking why people who succeed in business would be interested in assisting a football department over holding an elected public office?

This is similar to the statement that the federal government does nothing well except for the military. Untrue and misleading statement. It is true that the US military is lethal, but it is not "well run." We're overpaying for everything and contractors are making out like bandits. In fact, they need to change that expression to reflect how much better military contractors are making out than bandits. The expression should be, "They're making out like military contractors." But the supply of money for the military in congressional budgets and black budgets is so great that the pissing away of money gets ignored often.

So, too, goes LSU sports. The product (football and men's basketball) makes a shitload of money. Affiliated contractors and all the remora fish around the programs make out like military contractors. But, like the federal government, there is a lot of meat left on the bone, stripped off by vultures and also generally pissed away. See, Brian Kelly's buyout, and Lane Kiffen's eventual buyout when this thing crashes in spectacular fashion +/- five years.

Other federal government and state programs don't have the fishes and loaves aspect to them. And most people like our military, football and men's basketball teams. No one likes to run the highways, other than the contractors who make out like contractors to piecemeal pave roads. Our roads are laughably bad. Go drive to Arkansas and Texas and regard how the quality of roads change when you hit the state line. Schools are shite. We pay salaries to incompetents. Our kids can't read or add. Sure, there's money for the contractors to sell smart boards and siege machines for the highly-publicized violence that "keeps" being perpetrated by the deranged and incorrigibly violent among us. But there's no touchdowns to cheer for or sweet dunks when it comes to highways and readin'.

So, you get a shithole.

I was literally thinking this last weekend while driving. The streets in BR are so bad. The city refuses to fix & maintain them. Yet LSU manages to snag the hottest coach in the country.

There's no money in government unless you're a crook.
