Is it just me or has recruiting and excitement totally lost its luster

I remember when that first Wednesday in February hit it was such an awesome day for college football
Now with all the early signing and transfer stuff and kids wanting social media attention it seems watered down

Absolutely it has. It’ll never go back to what it was.

Because majority of the kids will transfer elsewhere. Possibly 2-3 times.

It went away when early signing day started. NIL killed whatever excitement was left. I don’t following recruiting near as much as I did before those.

Add - not sure if they will hit the portal without ever contributing
but yes the days of the bayou recruiting bash were magnificent. watching with great anticipation for the LSU fax machine to deliver the joyful news.

I just want us to land good players. I don't care how it happens nor do I care to follow these HS kids roller coaster decisions

NIL has ruined college football. I think the players should get paid but there needs to be a cap. Similar to what you see with rookie contracts in the NFL. But way less

Not since Bayou Bash st The River Center

It's hard to get excited for a player that might only be here for a year!

No more bashes, and they were a blast!

It is what it is. Kiffin is the best at the new game, portal and nil.

Or they continue to ask for more money during their "exit interview" after every season with their current team.
I'm all for paying players but there needs to be some structure around this and fast. You can't blame these kids for trying to maximize their gains in this extremely small window and very rare situation.
The kids chasing bags are not the problem. The system being set up for them to do that is the problem.

Agreed. They have to level the playing field. Something like every player gets a $5,000 monthly stipend. Starters can get up to $10k month.
That gets rid of the old excuse they didn’t have any money and couldn’t work because of ncaa rules. I don’t know any college students making $100k a year.
Then Add scholarships, room and board, etc. all schools become even again and it becomes about the school again.
Get rid of early signing period.
Transfer portal needs limits. 1 time free pass anytime anywhere. 2nd time only if coach leaves or your injured. 3rd time you have to sit out a year like old days.

If your a top tier player what’s the downside of going in portal every year and going to highest bidder?

The decline started when NIL turned Student-Athletes into Money-Athletes. It’s all business now & the kids better avoid a serious injury or posting subpar stats prior to the NFL draft.
College has nothing to do with earning a degree/future anymore.

You mean like the old Bayou Bash?

I am not for paying players unless it’s the same for all student athletes men and women at your school. If someone does extra duties they can be paid a bit more - like if they organize practice etc. Won’t need any NIL $ and ticket prices can drop to a reasonable level. Coaches salaries would decline as well.
Never gonna happen.
