Jalen Reed’s incredible run of bad luck with injuries made me think of him.

Both highly rated out of high school. If I remember correctly, Randy was either #1 in the nation and twice national player of the year in a class that had Jason Kidd, Rasheed Wallace and Jerry Stackhouse. He played point guard at like 6’4”.

I saw him in person before his first knee injury and he was the best I’d ever seen at his level. Could beat even the best players and really good players in college off the dribble.

Played with Ronnie Henderson at LSU. Only played a couple of seasons at LSU because of repeated knee injuries.
Never was the same, but was so good he still made an NBA team and played for 12 years in the NBA.

Now it looks like his son is a senior and his dad is the coach. How good is he and is LSU recruiting him?

Most people don’t realize how good Randy was before the injury. He was a more complete Jason Kid.

I played a few games against him AFTER the knee surgery at the URec. Dude was going about 50% and absolutely embarrassed anyone covering him. Including a couple of football players who were damn good bball players in HS.

I met him in Idaho a couple of times when he was coaching for the Idaho Stampede. Seemed like a a good dude.

I think a testament to how good he was before the injuries is that he still managed 11 years in the NBA (with the lowest games played total for any player with that long a career), despite the injuries.

A player of average (for the NBA) talent wouldn't have been given that many chances.

He was averaging about 15points and 10 assists per game on one leg his first year at LSU. He was unreal

Exactly, playoff teams used to sign him late for their playoff rosters all the time.

Even with the first knee injury, as a freshman, he was still averaging 14 points, 4 rebounds and over 9 assists per game!
Unbelievable player and a nice guy when I interacted with him

Losing Reed is a terrible blow. I can’t get over the thought of McMahon bragging about how he was playing way ahead of schedule.

He would have been one of the greatest PG ever without that injury and even with it he still played at a high level. What could have been. And a high character guy to boot.

He's one of the biggest "what ifs" in basketball, IMO.

Without the injuries, LSU has an all time starting five that would beat anyone but maybe UNC and UCLA.

Shaq, Pettit, Maravich, Chris Jackson, and a healthy Randy Livingston

I remember seeing him on the bench with the Houston Rockets, but didn’t really follow his career after that. I was amazed when I saw how long his playing career was
