I think this is the guy Brian Kelly wanted when he arrived at LSU, but he eventually snubbed Kelly. Then Kelly hired the DC whose name shall not be mentioned.

77th in yards per play last year. 66th this year. Of course, their defensive talent level is probably close to that. They were top 40 the previous 2 years. Soo, meh, i dunno.

Honestly unless you are getting some big name that players will come play for, almost any coach can be good.

He’s a much better version of Matt House. He’s a good, smart DC, but his scheme is difficult to run at the highest level consistently in college. It’s complex, read and react and he uses a LOT of zone.
All of these are things most HS kids don’t know much about and take time to master. It also helps to keep kids in your program to master it, which is more difficult in the portal era. These are reasons UK’s defense has still been good, but trended down from its peak a few years ago.
He’s a good coach if you can get him the right guys to run his scheme. Or maybe he adapts a bit away from Stoops.
