The downside of the portal is it is usually a short term solution

Hoping to start signing more top players out of high school that can stay on the roster for 3 years that can be developed as a group. Looks like this years class maybe limited due to Kiffin signing late but the DL will be in good hands especially if ED comes back. The current Oline will need a big talent infusion though and bringing in short term fixes from the portal such as LSU did this year didnt work. Half the problem was B Davis couldnt develop shite but think the other issues were constantly rotating and a lack of unit cohesion.
Hoping LSU can get to the OH ST, UGA, BAMA model of bringing in top HS players at their positions for long term instead of using the portal for key positions for the short term.Lane is a big portal guy and will make the right decisions but the schools mentioned above have had long term success by using the portal as a supplement to developing their own talent. With the resources Lane now has at LSU we should get to watch top players for 3 years instead of 1 or 2 years at the most and get to watch LSU relevant every year instead of every 5 years.

As of now everything is a short term solution. Kid could sign out of high school and leave after his first year.

Kiffin will not have to rely on the portal like he did at Ole Piss. Louisiana kids love LSU and it probably 50/50 on recruiting high school kids versus the portal. Kiffin at was 70 to 80 percent Transfer portal takes while at Ole Miss.

Yep....like all hoes. They stay till the money is used up, then they leave.
Anything about money in life, is absolutely temporary

Lane + LSU will have kids lining up. HS recruits and portal kids. When LSU is having fun and winning they are an unstoppable force.

Sadly, gone are the days of guys debating returning for their senior year to dominate with their team one final year. The team dynasty histories are broken, however dynasties can still be achieved through puzzle pieces.

Everyone acts like it's a complete roster rebuild. It's not. We have recruited pretty well last several years. We have good young talent.
I think OM current roster has 60 total portal guys, not ideal.

You're building a roster year to year, not a program. We got a hired gun because we need hired guns.

We have a great foundation in place. We can keep the vast majority of resources in place. We were a crap OC and Nuss injury away from 11-1.

Correct. Before the season everyone was screaming about how much talent is/was on the roster. This isn’t space jam, the players didn’t just lose their talents.

With NIL money that will actually encourage more players to stay in school another year since they can get paid without having to go pro, save for those basically guaranteed 1st/2nd rd. Many will likely earn more $ returning a Sr year as opposed to being a late round draft pick.
Portal is meant to pick up a handful of key players, and more developmental or rotational players.
Only teams with a new HC should have to rely on building a roster through the portal like Brian Kelly after taking over for Orgeron, but Lane & 2025-2026 LSU do not fall into this category.

Nothing is stopping them from coming here out of high school and then jumping into the transfer portal after a year or 2 because they want to go somewhere they can get more playing time or to chase a bigger payday elsewhere.
