I was curious about this. I was out of the loop late yesterday for several hours.
Wanted to know reaction and if the players wanted him for playoffs.

No. He wasn’t allowed to.

No, AD wouldn’t allow it. Which imo is to be expected given the circumstances.

The way it sounds is that Ole Miss moved the meeting back so that they could keep Lane out of the meeting

Thanks for the info guys. I heard the Lane release about not being allowed to coach playoff. But not being able to meet with the team with the AD is a crappy move. I understand it wirh the portal influence but if the AD is there i dont see the point.

Apparently he tried to talk to the team leadership players after the meeting but they told him to leave.

It has been said that the players asked the AD to let Lane stay and coach through the playoffs but even they were denied.

That was supposedly after the Florida game. Reports were the week of the Egg Bowl they were getting tired of it all and wanted him to just go. Just what I've read. But it seemed the team wasn't sad he left.

I get that they were probably tired of the distraction, but they all know the main reason they were 11-1 and it wasn't the blow and sorority girls in Oxford.

No offense, but OM insiders have wrong every step of the way. Hearing the leaked audio yesterday of the meeting being nearly comply silent I’d say that the bs about them telling him to go was wrong as well.

Why would that be expected? I would expect them to allow the coach to address the team, as is usually the custom. If they don't allow that (and they did not), their "what about the kids" schtick is nonsense.

Guess you've never been in a team meeting before. There's not a ton of talking going on while the AD, Chancellor, or HC is talking. Then the room erupted when he announced Golding.

Tough day, trying to convince themselves Golding is gonna take that program up near the top

I mean, he took a job at a divisional rival.

I genuinely do not think LSU would have allowed as much either.

I fail to see why a short, controlled meeting with the players would be a problem.

Players will hear all the details we have all heard.

Do you think they will feel resentment toward their coach, who has publicly stated he wanted to finish out coaching the season and wanted to meet with them, or the Ole Miss administration, who prevented either from happening?

Half the Ole Miss team, like much of college football, is mercenaries. What do you think Lane could do while there that he cannot do elsewhere?

Look man, I don’t necessarily disagree with any of your points. I wouldn’t have been shocked if they allowed him to say goodbye.

But it’s also entirely within reason to have told him to pack his shite and go, now. He’s leaving for a rival. They wanted to use the moment to announce Golding, and not make it about Lane. It makes sense, and I think LSU would do the same if Lane were leaving us for Ole Miss.

I think it is within reason. I just think it was more about self-preservation by the AD than anything else (I gotta live here). I firmly believe some very influential donors wanted to punish Kiffin. Any AD will have to deal with those and often bend to their pressure; it is the nature of the profession.

So we probably do mostly agree, I just think it was more about pettiness on the Ole Miss side. And it probably would be the same for LSU if it were reversed.
