The pick 2 cost Smyth the chance to smite the Dolphins

Charlie could have been the hero in his first game had the try for 2 not been picked. After the recovery of the onside kick once the Saints reached the 43 yard line they would have just run and shortened the FG try as much as possible. A kick of up to 65 yards would have been well within Smyth's range.

Olave letting the game winner go through his hands in the end zone didn’t seem to help much.

True, but if they only trailed by 2 that pass would not have been called.

Or... or...

If the officials had properly called that interception an interception instead of an incompletion... that's 3 Dolphin points off the board

To think... the defense really threw a shutout in the 2nd half

I think they still call that play since it was 2nd & 1 yard. But they would have just punched it up the gut on 3rd & 1 for that short conversion. Run for a quick spike if he converts, if not force Miami to use their last TO and let Smyth have a shot at a 54 yard game winner.

Defense would have been called differently.

Olave had the game “in his hands”.

I quoted “in his hands” because he actually failed to get his hands on the ball as it passed him though his arms.

He is always doing shite like that. He never makes clutch plays.

Olave said he wants to stay a Saint because he knows that it's his best chance to get paid.

He made some pretty good catches and took some shots yesterday but he seems to wilt in the clutch. It's a shame because he is a damned accurate route runner.

his inability to track balls that are offtime throws is so ridiculously bad

We should have won, but all things considered, the outcome of the game was basically perfect. Shough played extremely well in the 2nd half to bring us back, Vele looked like a stud that Shough can lean on, Neal looked solid, and we added an L to the loss column strengthening our draft position. The main negative is that Olave just has to catch that ball. It would have hurt our draft position but he has to catch that ball. I think we take the best player in the draft, and give Shough another season with a full offseason of QB1 work with KM.

No excuse for the horrific 1st half. Both halves are equally as important.
