If Trump pulls this peace deal off, it will be a miracle. There are deeply embedded entities in the intelligence and diplomatic communities who are working to sabotage Trump’s efforts here at any cost.

Our nation’s wholly corrupted national security apparatus thrives off geopolitical chaos, the more violent the better. Some here are just awakening to the utter depths of the continuing crisis however.

Putin will take what he wants regardless of what trump will cede him. Trump is a realist. Europe is not.

It’s war. Ukraine lost their ground to Russia and they paid for it with blood. It’s theirs and how the world has worked throughout time. We are the only ones dumb enough to take land, give it back and use our money to rebuild it.

I’m don’t think the people of Ukraine have much of a say in this. Zelensky is simply an office messenger boy. He does what he is told to do.

It is read as such.
I’m not sure but this has been Putin’s position all along: Russia consistently has rejected the demand for it to return the Crimea and the other Russia occupied territories back to Ukraine.
I also believe that much of the saber-rattling toward Venezuela is to isolate one of Russia’s few trading partners in the Western Hemisphere and thus put pressure on Putin to come to the negotiating table.

FWIW, I expected the Ukraine to exist as a NATO rump state — i.e. as a client state of NATO without NATO guarantees — and Russia to maintain the territory it had taken in the Ukraine.

Perhaps so. But the moment the conflict degenerated into a war of attrition, Russia has held the upper hand.
Russia is now fighting a war that will ultimately end in Russian victory — unless it is escalated into a much larger war against the West. That indeed is the primary concern here.
There are wholly corrupted entities in our nation’s IC who will do anything to undermine Trump. Trip-wiring a larger war in Eastern Europe is of no concern to these depraved interests and indeed is very likely their goal.
