Can’t Miss Coaches

What coaches do you remember that were sure things, and then turned out to be mediocre or worse?
The two that come immediately to my mind are Tom Herman and Jimbo Fisher. The book is still out on Lincoln Riley, but he’s looking to join the list.

Herman was my first thought.

At one time, people couldn't wait to mention Charlie Strong as the next Bear.
Ron Zook was another "hot commodity."

Charlie Strong is a good one.
I think Kevin Sumlin was on that list too

Kevin Sumlin was very coveted at one point. Coaching Johnny Manziel prolonged his 15 minutes of fame.

When Aggies pulled Fran from Bama it seemed like a big deal

Muschamp was coach in waiting at Texas before he went to UF

That was the media desperately pushing for a successful black HC

Bk sucked because of his absurd contract.
Charlie Strong, Tom Herman are good examples. Bk sacked too.

Mullen to Florida was supposed to be scary.

Pretty much all of them. The real question is other than Saban which ones met expectations.

I don’t know. All are expected to do well, but some of them are branded as the second coming.
BK was expected to do well, but I don’t remember most being as excited for him as they are for Kiffin. Same thing with James Franklin.
As for a really great recent coaches, though, other than Sayman, it is urban Meyer and Kirby Smart. Ryan Day making a case.

I knew it had to be some other reason, because he was god awful at coaching.

Yes, but these weren't can't miss b/c they weren't head coaches somewhere else first. Day was promoted from within.
Hell half this board would have never supported hiring them!
