Louisiana State Penitentiary in Angola, in partnership with God Behind Bars, hosted a father-daughter dance on Saturday.
God Behind Bars is an organization that partners with churches and ministries nationwide to help meet the needs of incarcerated individuals and their families. The organization said the first annual Daddy Daughter Dance inside the Angola facility reunited fathers who had not seen their daughters in years.

God Behind Bars said the dance gave incarcerated fathers the opportunity to reconnect with their daughters.
“Children with incarcerated parents are among the most vulnerable in America. Events like this matter deeply. Research shows that fatherless daughters face higher risks of low self-esteem, substance abuse, teen pregnancy, and incarceration,” God Behind Bars said.
Louisiana State Penitentiary Assistant Warden Anne-Marie Easely said in a statement sent to Newsweek, “It is so important for fathers to be involved in their daughters’ lives no matter where they are in order to break the cycle of incarceration, instill self-confidence and so many other things that fatherless daughters are more susceptible to.”

I'm glad there are people out there who have great ideas like this one and make it happen.

Just when I thought I was finished cutting onions for Thanksgiving dishes.

That's awesome
It's getting dusty in here
I honestly haven't cried like that in a while.

Cool idea. Hope that some of these men can use programs like this to turn their lives around.
Those young ladies need fathers in their life!

Who’s chopping onions in here?
Many prison ministries do amazing work, and this one looks like it certainly does, too.
Matthew 25:31-46
“For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me.” (35-36)

My dad had a prison ministry. I helped from a distance, Mike Barber Ministries, and still have a relationship with a Prison Entrepreneurship program. Those whose lives work is this sort of thing are doing the Jesus thing better than I

Some people do figure that out after getting in prison but it takes a long time to reach their second chance. Staying connected through events like this can only inspire them to stay on track.
Who shits on a story like this on Thanksgiving? Danilo.

its good for the daughters Thats enough for me
Young ladies getting a lesson on being young ladies and their dad acting as a chaperone our fatherly figure even for once in their life at least reminds them of what they didn't have growing up and to make different choices for themselves and their children

Your dad is Mike Barber? I remember him from LA Tech and the Oilers.

No I actually use punctuation so my sentiment was clear
My dad was a minister and had a prison ministry.
I helped somewhat with the Mike Barber Ministries because of my involvement in politics and some local Houston Oilers connections
I know the Campbell family
I still have some involvement with a prison entrepreneurship program currently. Based in part because of previous involvement.
But from that I've met people who do so much more and I admire them
