Do we even interview coaches anymore? Or just race to reset the market?

Call me old fashioned, but I don’t believe the most splashy and expensive hire is the right answer at a program like LSU. Maybe it is in the case, but I can’t think of a time where that worked? Jimbo failed at A&M, Kelly failed at LSU, Lincoln looks OK at USC..

I want the athletic director to sit across the table man to man and ask a candidate what their vision is for LSU football and how they plan to achieve that.

I don’t believe that’s how we’re operating. We’re going after the biggest fish for the biggest money again because he’s who the hottest name is.

I hope it works out with Kiffin if we land him, but I’m skeptical.

Totally agree. Gone are the days when we used to ask coaching candidates for a “body of work” (colloquial term used in the business based on some convos I’ve had with insiders that I won’t name).

Remember when we had a REAL AD like Joe Alleva who had a REAL candidate like Ed Orgeron submit binders worth of information and research relating to his plan for the program? That ended with us fielding the greatest team ever. Not a coincidence, baws

Now it’s just throwing money at the flashiest names. Not even an art anymore. This University and fanbase deserve better

Third time. I was in love with Tom Herman in 2016 and was pissed when O was hired. I was wrong, he was the right hire at the time because he actually had a plan to build a championship program (the binder).

I was also in love with Aranda and Riley last time. Not sure what would’ve come of any of those, but I don’t think anyone was right about that one.

I agree. Who would have thought that a coach from Michigan State that was 34-24-1 would turn out to be greatest of all time or that the Coach at Oklahoma State who was 28-21 would win another national championship for LSU and make another championship game? Who would have thought that a career D Line coach who failed as head coach at Ole Miss would coach the greatest team in college football history at LSU? But hey, perhaps the flashy flavor of the hour will work this time. Hopefully so.

Thank you! Make the candidate earn the job and show you his vision, don’t just up the salary to make a splash.

"My vision is to win championships. This will be done by hiring a good staff and recruiting good players."

Wow I'm sure that kind of answer would really help make the hiring decision

I wonder if O's binder had something on botching 5 of his 6 coordinator hires

You don’t how LSU is operating.

Imagine watching LSU score 13 on WKU and then question our leadership for going after Kiffin.

They pretty much have to hire a coach like Kiffin, because like it or not, he will bring excitement back to LSU. They have to justify the Raising of ticket prices once again. Kiffin would get that done.

Which one did he get right? Ensminger? He was hired by Miles, technically, but O did promote him, so I'll allow it

You mean you don’t want to get in a bidding war and hire a coach on his 6th head coaching stint that hasn’t won anything?

Asking the administration to actually do their jobs is a stretch these days. LSU football is toast.

How do you interview coaches when all you care about is winning and all you need to see is played out on Saturday’s and Sunday’s? Other than hearing what they are thinking of on assistant coaches

And apparently you would rather LSU write the biggest check to the biggest name?

Not entirely sure though because you criticized an alternative plan without giving an idea of your own. Pretty convenient when trying to avoid criticism of your own

How do you know no interviews were conducted?

It takes a few minutes and no travel time or money to set up a zoom call.

We fired Scott and all cheered like lab monkeys only to do exactly what Scott was known for but instead have a drunk governor running it
