Art Briles back in the NCAA after almost a decade

Hired as head coach by Eastern New Mexico. He's been coaching in a league in Italy off and on for the last 9 years.

Briles coached at my high school for a bit and is related to some friends of mine. Still wild all the stuff that went on at Baylor during his tenure there. Oakman always looked like he was fresh off a stint from a maximum security prison.

An external investigation revealed in May 2016 that Baylor had for years mishandled numerous sexual assault allegations by students, including some against football players. Briles has said that he didn’t cover up reports of assaults by his players. An NCAA infractions report in 2021 ripped him for failing to look into horrific and potentially criminal allegations, but he wasn’t found guilty of any NCAA violations.
When asked how different his perspective is 10 years after his last college season, Briles responded, “I think I’m certainly a lot more knowledgeable about every situation.”

La Tech should have hired him.
He could tell the Baptist in Ruston he repented and is a new man but still knows football.

I don't know that he will ever make it back to D1 football due to his age, but would've have been interesting to see if a team ever would've taken the gamble if he was younger. Everything I heard during my time at Baylor and living in Waco from some connected people, Briles was really just a scapegoat for higher up officials.

My favorite rumor about the whole ordeal, was that it was UT alum/attorneys that brought the accusations to light because they didn't like that Baylor was the new Big 12 powerhouse in Texas and was winning the recruiting battles.

1. Oakman got found not guilty so I’m not sure if it’s fair to hate on him.
2. The school had massive issues with how they handled the cases. It was an evolving time with new rules from the Obama admin and they failed to keep up (granted other schools were behind but Baylor had football players getting in trouble we shed light on it).
3. I don’t think Briles is as horrible as people make him out to be, but he definitely didn’t do as much as was needed in regards to disciplining players in the modern era. In one of the instances, he basically told another staff member to tell the girl to go to the police. That’s not enough in the modern era. If you hear accounts of stuff as a university employee, you’re gonna have to report it.

Didn't Oakman end up being completely innocent??

Idk about that, but he was found not guilty. But he got blackballed from the NFL and plays in Canada I think.

Allowing known rapists to stay on your team and continue preying on young Baptist girls is some MeToo bullshite?

Were they convicted or accused when they were still on the team?

He was almost hired at Grambling a few years ago. But the administration backtracked like 3 days later and rescinded their offer.

Not long enough. Should be banned for life.
