They blinked I guess. Can’t play chicken with the Lane Train.

Seems like a compromise was made and Saturday is his last day.

Thought that was pretty obvious

The "ultimatum" was that Lane was not coaching a playoff run without a contract in place..nothing ab that timeline has changed.

Altho I think CLK calls their bluff after the Egg Bowl

Where have you been, baw? They caved and gave him until after the Egg Bowl. They'll make an announcement then, and I assume he signs the LSU offer right after.

I think so too, but for the sanity of all LSU fans, we have to work a deal where he signs the LSU offer before going that long

Wasn’t the original “ultimatum” always the Egg Bowl? It’s seems to me that they already have their answer.

Agreed.

But Friday, not Saturday. I think everything “breaks” Friday night or Saturday morning…. “Mutual parting of ways”

No, Ole Miss wanted a firm answer last week and Kiffin told them to shove it. Hes forced his way to coaching the Egg Bowl and, if they perform well, perhaps the playoff run. He wants to coach his team and Ole Miss has zero standing to fire/suspend him.

LSU, reportedly, has told Lane's camp they'll wait however long is necessary.

If LK refuses to sign an extension before the play-offs will Ole Miss fire him and then owe him buyout money? Honest question.

He's not coaching the playoffs if we make it. He'll be announced as LSU's coach Saturday anyway making this point moot.

Does OM suspend Lane if he wants to coach in the playoffs?

Don’t know if that’s a good thing as if he wants the job he should be heading to BR. Especially with the terms that are offered.

That's the hope here, but Verge is on record saying that if we feel the right guy for the job is a playoff coach, we would wait until the playoffs are over to hire them.

Actually we are both wrong.

quote:

Ole Miss has given Lane Kiffin an ultimatum to decide his future before the Nov. 28 Egg Bowl against Mississippi State, a person briefed on the discussions told The Athletic.

The "ultimatum" was never last week.. it was before the egg bowl.. which Lane called their bluff on. I agree if they win the egg bowl he will try to parlay that into an SECCG & CFB playoff appearance..

Hopefully Ole Piss sticks to their guns this time and CLK is announced as our next coach.

Agreed

No scenario beyond that makes sense for OM or LSU

If the chips fall our way and we actually make the SECCG that is when it will get very interesting because his ego won't allow him to not coach that game. But I highly doubt we get past State at this point with amount of noise that has permeated the last two weeks.

No, theyll suspend him. Even if the reason is bogus by the time he fights it the playoffs will be over.

He won’t be fired but at that point, we would pull our extension offer and the only way he stays is if he turns down more money from both Florida and LSU. And our AD knows he won’t do that.

And I doubt LSU or Florida are going to want to wait to announce him past this weekend
