The Las Vegas thread got me wondering. This site gets a fair bit of traffic, so assuming there's probably a few of you that have a first hand or even secondhand account of a tragedy.

Understandable if you don't want to talk about it though baw

My sister was managing at a casino that night, my brother was a union foreman for that event, and my sister in law works for clark county pd. Couldn't get ahold of them for almost a whole day and had me worried. I was on royal st with my date when we heard the mag dumps. Thats about and it was more than enough

Oklahoma City bombing I worked at the state capitol in Austin so while not affected by the event itself it was a strange day because within 30 minutes you notice all the extra security and made you keenly aware that you might be a target because at that time everybody was thinking it was islamics

And Hurricane Harvey worked for Emmett spent the first 2 days Transstar , In the state of Texas a County Judge has dictator-like authority I was right there during it all and then after the storm Harvey I ran a refugee center although we called them
quote:

guest centers
for 10 days

is that enough of a firsthand account ?

By the way I made decisions that saved at least three lives that week
and I heard a baby born over the phone after directing a firetruck from Tenn to the address because emergency coms were down

stared down a gang member ,, whats up?

The wife worked at a bank during a robbery.
But, it was uneventful as far as bank robberies go.
Thankfully.

My wife worked at a law firm in DC when 9/11 happened. Her roommate was injured at the Pentagon. I have a buddy whose friend was killed at a Navy recruitment center that was the site of a terrorist attack

Certainly not directly affected but I remember fighter jets flying over Oak Ridge in the hours after 9/11 and being scared it was a target.

I’ve been serenaded by the sweet melody of Taliban mortars.

Does that count

I was at the Kunming railway station about 12 hours before those Uyghur terrorists stabbed a ton of people to death in 2014.

Yes. Wife lost her best friend in Las Vegas shooting. Only by the grace of god did she leave the area right before it started raining bullets She and I had tickets to Jason Aldean the week after and she figured she'd see him the next week at our home venue, and she wanted some sleep after the long weekend of partying with girlfriends. She was walking directly under the gun fire as it was happening and looked up and could see the muzzle flashes and the fire alarm strobes going off as she crossed the street heading to the mandalay bay. I was at work and received a call at 10 with her on the line saying there's been a shooting at the concert and Nicole was missing. I discounted it at first as small typical gun play gangish type violence until I turned on the vegas PD scanner channel on the scanner application and heard the magnitude. I knew she was safe in her room but it made for a long night as I knew the area would be locked down and it would take me 4 hours to drive there and not even get close to the hotel, or fly out in the morning and get her. I ended up flying out to go get her and the scene was surreal coming into vegas. I remember the curtains from the room blowing, and the quietness of the hotels and casinos. I walked into the back of Mandalay Bay, and believe it or not there were people still there playing slots. Picked her up, got her, flew her home and we didnt say a single word the entire flight back. I spent 42 minutes in Vegas on Oct 2 2017.

No, but I was living in DC during the Beltway Snipers killing spree. One of the victims was shot about 3 blocks from my apartment.

Was she traumatized from that event? 60 deaths and over 400 people shot is crazy to think how deadly it was.
