Excellent use of all that spare natural gas from the Permian Basin. Better to use that energy by spinning some turbines, produce electricity and mine some coins than just to flare it off.

90% of coins are minted with a big hype cycle. The people who mined them for $.0001 per launch the coin, drive the hype, then sell before it crashes.

Anyone who has traveled to the Permian or the Bakken shale and seen the enormous amount of gas flaring out in the fields has had this idea. We just didn't have the capital, nor the political pull to make this happen.

There is zero grift here.
They are using natural gas that would have been otherwise flared off, producing electricity with it and mining bitcoins.
It’s not free energy but it’s cheaper than grid electricity. A lot cheaper.
