I guess they want to see how it shakes out this season and how it’s received by fans before making any changes. Which makes sense to me.

It'd be dumb if they expanded it. 12 is already too much. 4 was good with 6 being the max.

Why not just the whole top 20 at this point? Let's get some 4 loss teams in there too. Go ahead and make the regular season meaningless.
I hate the direction of CFB

The Big 10 championship game is going to be the most pointless one ever played. They gotta do something different.

They are just determined to turn college football into college basketball. A mostly irrelevant regular season followe by a winner take all tournament that's the only thing that matters.
Lose your big out of conference game.
Go 0-3 against your three biggest rivals.
8-4 and still in the tournament.
Completely pathetic.
The stakes of regular season games mean nothing at that point.

yes, because if the playoffs have shown us anything, it's that it needs more crappy teams.

Am I crazy for asking why should ESPN get a say in anything for CFB?
I understand that they want a good product to show but I don’t like that they have any input for how CFB is ran.

You act like they care about the final product
They care about TV money

what the sec should do is keep the conference title game and play it last week of regular season, that would be the #1 and #2 teams 9th conference game instead of making them play an extra game and you can keep the game intact - you can determine the two reps in that game based on the 8 team sec schedule
move the rivalry games to earlier in the season to avoid any potential conflict
make sure everyone has a SEC team the last game of the season and those games would be determined once the conference title game is set
the conference title game would have it's own window on that Sat and all other sec games could be played friday and Sat not to conflict with the title game for 7 pm that night in Atlanta

It’s time to stop messing around and go to a 128 team playoff.

UMASS @ Ohio State would set offensive records

It’s the only way to produce a truly legitimate national champion.
As long as everyone agrees they won’t argue about seeding and regional placement.

Go back to the OG conferences, have the Metro play football, have the SEC with 10 teams, bring the SWC and PAC back.
Have the old school bowl matchups.
Ban mulligans.
Do a plus one after the bowls if there are more than two undefeated teams. Otherwise split the title.

I would add no auto bids.
Nothing other than top 16 teams. First two rounds on campus.

The first round has to be all on campus games, and they either need to bring back byes or guarantee home games for conference champs.
Then the Big Ten championship Game isn’t meaningless because the loser could have to play a road game in the first round.
Many may say that’s stupid, but it’s pretty much exactly what the NFL does. It’s why the 14-3 Vikings traveled in the Wildcard Round last year, it’s why the AFC South champion hosts a team that’s higher in the standings nearly every season, etc.

Not true. The final weekend this season proves it. There are a bunch of big games this weekend that have huge implications on the CFP.
It's nice that the coverage has widened from maybe 4 teams to talking about 16-20 teams in the hunt.

Yes for teams that shouldn’t sniff the meaningful post season.

It's increased the pool of meaningful games at the bottom at the expense of stakes at the top. Last year's Ohio State vs Michigan game was the perfect example. Michigan pulls a huge upset on the road of a hated rival, and it meant nothing. Throughout all of college football history it would have torpedoed Ohio Stat's entire season. How famous would the "kick six" game be if both Alabama and Auburn were in the playoffs 2 weeks later? Because that would have been the result.
I would also argue the "meaningful" games at the bottom are basically fake. Teams in the top 10 are actually capable of having deep playoff runs. Fringe top 20 teams simply aren't.
Two 8-4 teams battling for the last playoff spot may seem "meaningful" but it's in reality just who gets the honor of losing by 21+ in the first round to a real team.
A big playoff produces more national interest in the sport, because more teams are in the hunt, but the uniqueness and specialness of college football's regular season has been destroyed. It used to be the most meaningful regular season in all of major sports. The bigger the playoff field, the less that becomes true.
