Pretty impressive when you think about it especially considering he accomplished all that in less than 4 full seasons.

I thought of this a few days ago. I was saying the worst offense since 2010, but this WKU game made me realize just how awful everything was in an "all time" manner.

Never had complimentary football during his tenure

Is this what he meant by complimentary football?

If Kelly doesn’t beat Alabama in 2022 would he go down as one of the worst coaches in LSU history?

Geez, y'all need to step back and look at things from a distance. Kelly coached here 3.5 seasons; he won 9, 9, and 8 games in the regular season each year. His team was 5-3 when he got fired, it's 7-4 now and with a miracle upset of Oklahoma would go 8-4 again. Even at 7-5, that's a winning season every year. SEC records were 6-2, 6-2, 5-3, and now this year we're looking at 3-5/4-4.
You take away the guys with national championships, and he's among the better.
You can put Arnsparger and McClendon above him; Arnsparger won the SEC once (played in 2 Sugars), but was 0-3 in bowls. And remember, the SEC didn't have anyone in national contention while he was here.
McClendon was here a long time, shared 1 SEC title (didn't go to the Sugar), did have a couple losing seasons. Was 7-6 in his bowl games.
I'd put Kelly ahead of these guys:
Mike Archer- did tie for an SEC title (didn't go to the Sugar) and had a 10 win season, but had 2 losing seasons out of 4.
Jerry Stovall- 2 losing seasons out of 4, did get to the Orange.
DiNardo- did tie for the SEC West twice (never went to Atlanta), 2 losing seasons out of 5.
Curley Hallman- 4 seasons, all losing seasons.
And before someone says Kelly's win total is inflated by the extra game (12 game seasons now, used to be 11 or 10)- Kelly had to play 8 conference games, Arnsparger and McClendon had 6. Archer had 6 to 7.
So, if we're talking about football in the color TV era, Kelly was squarely middle of the pack. Never great, never bad.

I don’t have stats to back it up but I gotta think the Peveto years were up there for special teams.

Be thrilled that he’s gone… it’s onward and upward from here.
Adding to your details, is my thank you letter to the LSU student paper sports editor when his hire was announced. He’s an insufferable ahole. Not included in my note is his charity’s dismal performance while in SB…
“Hi Joe, I’m writing to you and LSU to say thank you very much for hiring Brian Kelly. Somewhat lost, in the fan base euphoria I’ve witnessed from LSU, are some very relevant facts. First off, kelly is not the winningest coach in Notre Dame history. Also, in order to reach Knute Rockne’s winning percentage kelly would have had to win his next 200+ games in a row. That’s not a typo. (Plus, that’s giving him the benefit of 21 NCAA vacated wins.) In addition, if you go to the NCAA website you can find the Public Infractions Report (PIR) where the NCAA specifically prohibits using vacated wins for coaching milestones. I’ll send you the report if you have difficulty finding it. His win total is 21 lower. He did not eclipse Rockne’s wins in any ethical NCAA approved capacity.…. However, 5 years ago kelly did gain the mantle of Notre Dame’s “losingest” coach in school history. He’ll most likely carry that through eternity. Not only was kelly pummeled by the NCAA in 2016, he’s currently on probation for recruiting violations through January 2022.
At LSU you measure success by National Championships, Heismans….. Notre Dame does the same. The biggest post season bowl win in kelly’s lackluster career is the Citrus? Music? Sun? Camping? (The Pinstripe was vacated and the trophy may not be displayed). It’s hardly a worthy resume’. Under the brightest lights he wilts.
You are going to experience an underachieving, self promoting, narcissistic egomaniac the likes of which you’ve never seen. He’ll be throwing players under the bus as soon as the road gets bumpy. He’s a money grabbing mercenary. The king’s ransom you’ve paid was better off given to the likes of Bernie Madoff. There’s more, but I hope you get the gist. I’m writing this as fair warning and a sincere thank you.
Hallelujah he’s gone.
PS I didn’t know how he’d gum up his intro, but the phony accent exceeded all expectations.”

Les was good for a handful of trick plays a season usually against Florida
Offense at least ate clock and shorten games which is better than can be said for Sloans

CBK stole money from LSU. I wouldn't pay him a dime more. He never had a complete team. He wasted Jayden Daniels. That should have been a national championship team. I mean how does that look on his coaching ability? Les Miles and Ed O won titles here. CBK nothing. Awful jackass

4 years under his leadership of developing soft players. We’ve never come out starting firing on all cylinders on any game.

Brian Kelly is the college football version of Bernie Madoff

Saban raised the ceiling, we could now win a national title. Beforehand, for my lifetime it seemed like the best LSU could do is make it to a premium bowl, and play competitively.
Miles raised the floor, we no longer had the occasional losing season mixed in every 5 yrs or so. Didn't matter if the star QB or RB graduated, we still reeled off another winning season.
People revere Saban for what he did, few seem to acknowledge the consistency Miles produced. Both are essential for what we now demand from the program.
