Tell me your experience if you own a Genesis GV80 or some other Genesis car.

Wife wants to downsize from a Yukon XL to a mid size luxury SUV. We have driven the BMW X7, Mercedes GLS 550, Audi Q7, Lexus GX 550 and Accura MDX.

The Lexus GX are 9 months out to order and have $14k dealer markup. Nyet!

The Mercedes GL 550 was nice but underwhelming. Salesman had no idea about the features.

The Audi Q7. Wife wasn’t impressed.

Accura MDX. Definitely the best price in that category and drives fine.

The wife’s top picks are the BMW X7 and the Genesis GV80. My research shows the GV80 to do well in reviews while the X7 has had a checkered past in reliability. I really don’t know much about the Genesis or know anyone who has owned one.

I know these luxury brands depreciate like a cold shower but anyone with Genesis experience please weigh in. I just don’t want to spend north of $90k and have to constantly be in the shop. TIA

They can slap whatever badge they want on there, but it's still a Hyundai

Will you let the kids eat fast food in that car?

I have a coworker who has the 80 and she loves it. No issues that I know of. My wife has a MDX, that is an awesome ride. Very quiet and comfortable. No problems with it either

Wait for it, find a Certified Pre-Owned there if you can’t wait.

Had a G70. Fine car. But it’s still a Hyundai and you will lose your arse on it. Depreciation is horrid, even on the SUVs. I will not buy another Genesis.

Have the 2023 gv80. No issues. Great looking vehicle, comfortable ride, great technology. Looked at the same ones as you.

Of those you should only consider the MDX or GV80

I like Lexus but the premium isn't worth it. You'll get basically the same stuff from the MDX, faults and positives, generally, for less. The new markups are insane for the new Lexus models

Avoid German cars unless you're leasing, especially Audi.

Typically not worth it b/c the market doesn't depreciate Toyota products as they should. You're better off buying new.

Aren't the Genesis vehicles all RWD?

The GX 550 has $14k additional dealer markup due to demand. The dude cannot abide this aggression, man.

The one we looked at is AWD. Not sure if they have RWD

The market dos what the market dos.

I’d wait on it. That’s just me.

Any problem areas I need to know about? They have one with a 4cyl turbo but that scares me with such a heavy vehicle.

Have you looked at a Ford Explorer ST?

Too many other cars that would work plus the Toyota/Lexus issue with metal shavings in the V6 turbo has been a red flag. Lots of recalls from what I read.

I’d be happy with either but I must say that Beamer has great handling and awesome interior but that would suck if it’s glitchy.

Wife has a 22 MDX. Love it and no issues yet at 40K miles.

We looked at the others and were underwhelmed for the price differences.

Buddy has a 2017 model and claims no issues. It's really nice with power. Maybe a Hyundai, but I look at it as Toyota owns Lexus deal
