Lane’s buyout to Ole Miss if he leaves

According to USA Today Sports, Kiffin would owe Ole Miss a "flat fee" around $4 million, if he terminated his contract on or before Dec. 31, 2025.
I think above probably explains OM’s puzzling statement yesterday. Ole Miss is in an awkward position where they can’t suspend Kiffin or tell him to hit the road. They don’t want to “force him out” and forfeit that $4m. It’s a weird spot for Ole Miss to be in, and they basically have to let Kiffin leave when he chooses to do so. Unfortunately, for them, They can’t force his hand.
Obviously LSU would pay that buyout for Kiffin… I’m speaking more from the OM perspective here…not wanting to take an action that could result in them not receiving that $4m.

Not sure why they couldn’t suspend him

They hit him with that and watch how hard it will be to get a good coach ever again for them.
Ole Miss sit in the corner and wait

A lot more to it than making an announcement. Y’all need to relax and trust the people handling the process.

Big deal. $4M is a decimal point in the grand scheme of things.
Or he is just trolling. Who knows. Very few folks.

Almost as hard as having a governor fire your last coach?
Or trying to fire your last coach for cause so you don't owe him the contracted $50mil?

Dude $4m is a drop in the bucket. They aren’t holding off decisions because of that.

Well no offense... that's richer than 6 feet up a Jersey Bull's arse with the handling of BK's firing and contract mgmt.

LSU can do more wreckless shite than ole Miss based on the intangibles like LSU has the capability to win a title. Ole Miss can sneak into the playoffs

On what grounds? Supposedly he notified them that he’s looking into other jobs, which is complying with the terms of his contract.
Say what you want about Lane, but he’s been smart with complying with his contractual terms. Of course I owe this to Sexton. And say what you want about how he’s handled things from an “ethical” or personal standpoint, it appears he’s adhered to his contractual obligations.

You moved the goalposts on the issue discussed.

Well at this point it doesn’t look like that’s been an issue for LSU. I stand to be corrected depending on how this plays out.

I’m no lawyer, but I’m guessing that opens the door to potentially him not owing OM the $4m when he leaves.

Dude, if they fire him, they'd owe 10s of millions.
They have no cause

I don't believe there is a contractual basis for suspension. And to what point? Don't coach our team?

They could, but their AD loses his cover. If Keith Carter suspends him and they lose next Saturday, that ends up coming back on Carter. If you keep Kiffin for that game and lose, the blame squarely falls on Kiffin for the drama he created.

Such an interesting situation to navigate for all parties.

I’ll bet you a cool $100 that when it all shakes out, the attempts to lowball BK will end up being a last ditch save arse attempt by Woodward before he was fired. He was already in hot water for “firing” BK unilaterally when he didn’t have the authority to. And that huge buyout was obviously his doing and ultimate undoing.
The only reason it’s taken this long to process was hiring a new President and AD hired in the middle of a major coaching search. Part of my bet is that BK gets his money soon with Rousse and Verge in charge and BK’s suit is quickly dismissed.

Can't blame them. You could get a whole guy like Nuss with that kind of money.
