This cycle has been really strange and it is because of Lane and Sexton creating leverage openly for fans and schools to see.
Now we have this delay in decision till the last game of the season.
Why would OM do this?
1) To settle things down and bring the focus back to football these last 2 weeks and insure their playoff position?
2) To allow time for OM and boosters put a better NIL package together?
3) Then Sexton leaks the LSU deal to see of OM will sweeten the pot?

Has LK really made a decision yet or is he waiting for OM new bid?
Has LK made has decision but hasn't told OM and requested the delay so he and the team can focus on these last 2 weeks to put OM in the best position of CFP?

I can see this breaking either way for LSU or OM.

They did it to try to give time for a search to be formed and to try and stave off being left out fsu style.

Turns out most athletic departments don’t know how to handle situations. They thought that would work but it might cause boosters to lose it

Maybe it’s just as simple as they tried to force lane into a decision and he told them he wouldnt sign an extension and wasn’t leaving unless they fired him

I know it, I just like going thru all the scenarios and trying to figure out what is really happening.

I don’t think there were any good options available for him. He may have expected that Lane would walk with an ultimatum and then he pushed back and wanted to coach the Egg Bowl. They can’t fire him without paying a big buyout just for one game and they don’t want to risk issues with playoff seeding if they win. And if they suspended him and lost, I think that would be very hard to sell. At least if they lose with Kiffin, he ends up as their fall guy because of the drama he created. So Keith Carter insulated himself a bit there.

They also couldn’t have another week with everyone knowing this meeting took place with no answers after. Yes, there will still be national media questions about the situation all week, but that statement let the OM fanbase know what’s going on- they are moving on and expect to hear about contact with other coaches this coming week. It would have been a huge story when the media heard about them talking to Sumrall and others. Now that’s just expected.

I think it was so they could start the preliminary search for a new coach. Could be way off, or it was going to come out anyway to get in front of it?

Honestly don’t know, could’ve just said nothing and let the speculation continue

lol. Lane Kiffin is the captain. None of this happens without him. The most likely scenario is he is doing Ole Miss a courtesy to see out the rest of the week, allow them to align before they go into the playoff without Lane.

Ole Miss making a statement is a PR move for them to keep the fanbase in the loop amongst the chaos. Stop reading into it so much.

Honestly, what’s the best way to handle this?

Unless he has a massive change of heart, Lane will be the next coach at LSU…

In a reasonable world LSU hires someone else and Ole Miss fires Kiffin for fricking with them

I would imagine he would leave at that point

This is dumb on OMs part. Their best option was to tell Lane to gtfo, find an interim who their players love and use it as an 'us vs the world' motivation in the playoffs.

The Matt Bowers' "Karma is a bitch" tweet is all you really need to know. A big money Ole Miss booster, who is an insider circle dweller, is publicly lashing out in anger. This man knows the score.
