I feel like praising John Williams right now...

The greatest film composer of all-time. Looking back at his work and how much he has contributed to pop culture. The man has composed some of the most memorable film music of the last 50+ years. It says a lot about a person's talents when pop culture remembers you for a soundtrack as recognizable as Jurassic Park but the Oscars reward you for a soundtrack as epic as Schindler's List that very same year.

Williams’ scores identify the films and characters like no one else can do. His body of work is incredible.

One of his most interesting soundtracks is The Long Goodbye. You hear the same theme in different styles in different scenes.
The movie is good, too. Crime drama.

I watched that Disney+ documentary on John Williams over the summer. What I took most from it was a Hamburg Steinway piano he has had from before he composed Jaws. He talked about how he has begun this compositions for all his films by playing the notes on that piano. All I could think about when seeing that is how that piano may be the single most important piano in all of history, as it has been the starting point for so many pieces of music that generations have been touched by. John Williams has literally helped compose our imaginations for so long, and he did not just do it once or twice, he has done so many times over. And it’s not just the themes, it’s the music as a whole. I know my heart the Star Wars theme, or the Superman theme, or the Indians Jones theme. But I also know that smaller ones, like “Leaving Home” from Superman, or the final track from “Last Crusade” where Henry Jones finally calls Indians Jones “Indiana.” I truly believe this man is one of the most important figures in music in the history of mankind for what he has given to us.

Go listen to the opening song for Home Alone and close your eyes and you’d swear you’re watching a Harry Potter movie.

Williams is the greatest composer for film of all time. No doubt. He reinvented the way music is scored - no massive orchestras, etc. He was raised in a musical home, surrounded by show business - plus he is an amazing pianist. He was kind of the perfect storm, in how he met the right people at the right time.
I still am in awe of composers like Danny Elfman and Hans Zimmer too. John Williams was raised in a successful musical family, went to UCLA and Juilliard, and had the means to have private lessons with some of the best musicians in the world. Zimmer and Elfman taught themselves. Really amazing and cudos to them as well.
Now, even less musicians are being used as synthestration and organic means are replacing even the medium-size orchestras. This type of scoring will be the way of the future (actually already is here).

Everyone in here should watch that if they haven't. It's a fantastic doc and even if you're a JW fan you likely don't realize just how much shite he's done music for. It's incredible how many things he's not only been a part of, but made infinitely better just by adding music to it.

I just converted all of my CD's to MP3 files and recorded them on thumb drives. I bought the 1st car that doesn't have a CD player so I wanted to still be able to listen all of it. This CD was one of the 1st ones I did. It's one of the few that I could listen to with my parents in the car.

It really was. And it was an emotional watch for me, lol. I'm a huge JW camper. The legacy is timeless, growing up and hearing all of his scores that basically defined my childhood. Probably, at some subliminal level, led me down the path of musicianship. Truly the GOAT.
