The reason we never announced Saban after the bama game is because Sexton asked us to delay so that he could put on the spectacle of Lane's reps flying into Baton Rouge to drive Lane's price up at either Ole Miss or Florida.

Why would Saban need a smokescreen? He's not coaching anywhere.
FWIW - People way over think most of these things. There generally aren't any "smokescreens" in a coaching search. Most of the time the obvious is accurate and schools just don't get the person they were after.
For instance, Lincoln Riley wasn't a smokescreen for Kelly. Riley was the target, we missed, and then went after Kelly.

You’re looking at it backwards. He’s not trying to convince LSU. It’s obvious LSU wants Kiffin. Saban has first hand experience of LSU and is still close with a lot of people in BR.
