Hilton has announced some significant changes to its Hilton Honors loyalty program. While the adjustments are somewhat of a mixed bag, and bring the company more in line with its competitors loyalty programs, if you stay a lot of nights in a Hilton property you'll probably come out ahead.

If you're like me, and earn status via credit card spend, these changes may be somewhat disappointing.

Beginning in January 2026, major changes are coming to the Hilton Honors program. These changes are for 2026 qualifying activity which will impact 2027 status. Those that have earned 2026 status through qualifying activity in 2025 won’t see any changes to their elite status for next year.

- Introduction of a new, top tier status
- Reduced elite qualifying thresholds for Gold and Diamond members
- Elimination of rollover nights
- Reduced earnings at Homewood Suites and Spark by Hilton properties

Thanks for the post!

Does the Hilton AMEX Aspire still get complementary Diamond status?

Earning status with credit cards won't change. That's how I have my Diamond status. You can't earn Diamond Reserve through the card though.

This will help me. I meet Diamond status every year by getting the stays (30 per year). But some years it's down to the wire. Like this year where I currently have 27 stays, and only 2 more trips that I know of in 2025. I'll probably have to book some cheap Hilton somewhere (and not show up) with points to maintain Diamond. Reducing it to 25 stays/year will make it easier and is closer in line with Bonvoy..

I always thought it was odd that Hilton had only three tiers while Bonvoy has 5. I'm not surprised by the changes here at all. Actually pretty impressed that they reduced earnings and kept the perks in place. With Diamond Reserve getting all new perks.

Not much. Room upgrades occasionally, 48 hour room guarantee and the closer parking spots, which everybody already parks in anyway

I stay in a lot of hotels for work and like compiling the points for personal use.

I forgot about the parking spots. My last few Hilton stays have been in urban areas with no parking.

It’s not much, maybe one out of five stays I’ll get upgraded from “city view” to “river view”. You aren’t getting the presidential

ETA: also rollover nights are going away

I was excited about Diamond Reserve until I read $18K spend

This is all a net negative for me

Homewood Suites was the only extended stay out of Hilton, Marriott, and IHG to offer 10 points per dollar at an extended stay property

Reducing Diamond from 60 to 50 nights makes it easier for more people to reach Diamond and water it down even more than it already is

No more rollover nights is bullshite

This is just Hilton cutting costs and attempting to go after Marriott Ambassador customers

This but I stopped being loyal to Hilton when they stopped using AMEX earned points towards status earning. I did not stay as much but I spent a lot.

Same

I hit the 80 nights this year but I don’t think I spent 18k

You can still earn Diamond through credit card spend. That's how I get it.

I barely use my Hilton Amex except for when I stay at Hilton properties. I rarely stay at a Hilton. Now that the Waldorf in NYC is gone, the Roosevelt in NOLA is about one of few preference hotels I stay at when I travel. I often stay overnight between connecting flights and I use Hilton almost exclusively for that reason.
If Hilton had more premiere properties I would use the card more.
