Inform me on Riley/Jimbo/Herman to LSU

I wasn't following those searches as closely, but why were most of our fans sold on it? Did we ever hear members of Riley's family, etc touring campus?
There were obviously some fake insiders that said it was a "done deal", but what else was out there that made the fanbase buy in to the idea?
Again, I never followed those searches as closely, so please inform me.

Riley and Herman were coming until USC and Texas swooped in at the 11th hour, respectively.
Jimbo was coming until the team carried Les off the field after beating A&M in 2015. Then Joe Alleva and BOS members had an emergency meeting in the press box and decided to keep Les. Alleva told Les in the locker room before his post game press conference. Jimbo felt spurned.
ETA: as outlandish as all of this sounds, it is completely true.

These guys are the reason i’m not overly concerned with Lane Kiffin. They all went on to either fail or just sort of be okay. Kiffin seems like a sure thing, but so did Riley.

I've been following LSU Football since the mid 80s. To me this has been the craziest coaching search I have seen. It's not the craziest football moment though. I still think the 5/5 was insane.

None of them were coming here. Herman was going to Texas. Riley was going to USC. Joe Alleva was too chicken shite to fire Les Miles, and he didn't get around to it until 4 games into the next season after Les gave him the GFY salute during the Wisconsin loss.

There were so many “signed, sealed and delivered” posts and releases all over both of those searches it was nuts. Not just on this board either. From lots of LSU media.
This search has been very quiet outside of a few posts here and the one Dellenger release tonight.

the DONE DEAL with jimbo fell through at halftime.
miles being carried off had nothing to do with it. the players knew he was gone and gave him a sendoff.
lazy arse joe alleva did not wanna do any more searches after herman told him to f off. so we promoted O.
a nice 2 AM dump right now from DALSU would be magnificent! He was a lawyer who was able to see the contract. That is how he knew.

Herman was when I first made an account on TD and the first time in life I really became obsessed with the coaching carousel. I think I was in 8th or 9th grade at that point.
I remember staying up all hours of the night reading the board and waking up to tell my dad what all I “heard”
