With analytics taking over ever sport, and now with the combo of AI, I wonder if you guys know if they (coaching search teams, firms, etc) use analytics to help find a coach?

For example, taking in account winning football programs, can they manipulate and mine data to look for certain metrics that could point to a coach with championship instincts?

Thought?

End of the day coaching searches are a crapshoot and roll of the dice. There are too many external factors involved for a computer to come up with a surefire coach. Kelly’s resume when LSU hired him was about as good as it got. He didn’t even last 4 full seasons here at LSU.

except if you ask 10 different people to rank their top 5 "available" you'd likely get 10 different orders.
and probably not all give the same 5 guys.

They don’t take any analytics into account. They don’t care about team stats or numbers, that’s all stupid bullshite.

They only go off of vibes and gumption

Tried using ChatGPT to analyze who the best coaches in CFB based on expected wins vs. actual games won, but it ended up giving me what you'd expect ESPN to give as the top 5 head coaches (Kirby, Ryan Day, etc.)

Bro, CFB matrix has been doing this for 15 yrs. Where the hell have you been.

They're the premier staffer for the NFL and staff half the SEC and have for years.

Clients include:

Drink/Mizzou

Lane/Ole Miss

Fritz/Houston

Etc.

I understand what y’all are saying and your hesitations. But hear me out.

Analytics are changing the landscape of business, investing, heck how do you think the sports booking agencies and casinos will always eventually win more than they will ever give away in earnings.

What if some smart guys and gals at LSU just looked at the winning years these past 26 years. Saban, The Hat, and O.

Then with tons of data points measured, see if there are actually statistical factors that can give tangible evidence to those “intangibilities” we all assume great coaches have.

Then they can go back and look at championship team from the past 26 or more years and see if there are any trends in head coaching qualities.

Im telling you analytics can tell you a lot. But I agree it can be 100% and make picking a coach a sure thing.

Fair enough. I don’t know a lot about how it’s being used in coaching searches.

But if they would've really looked into him they would've heard the stories about him putting everything on his coaching staff and not recruiting when recruiting was more about going to homes.
