I get the Lane obsession and I don't get the Lane obsession. TBH he really has not set himself apart from anyone in the coaching world other than he's the "name" right now. He has had multiple opportunities and they always end up with average or just above results at best (excluding this year) and a ton of drama.
Do we really need that here, just so we get the "name"?
The obsession with him from 50% of this board is borderline embarrassing.

There are options out there that meet the "top coaches available" mark and leave the drama and the bidding war out of the picture. My hope is LSU is considering these options and not willing to play the game with Lane!

You can insert multiple names on that list of which most all have been mentioned.

If Lane comes...Let's GEAUX. If it's not Lane...Let's GEAUX!

We DO NOT NEED LANE KIFFIN. We are LSU and I feel confident we will continue to only accept success. Firing a coach and AD mid-season proves that.

I didn’t want Lane last go round but im not sure there are many better options especially with the consistency he’ll bring on the offensive side and development of quarterbacks.

If we are only looking for the better option in "name" then there is no other that tops LK.
But there are coaches out there that can check the boxes with a little patience and less drama.

I don't need to list them...they are listed on every sports website you go to right now. All I am saying is I don't think we need to get played by LK.

If LSU is confident in getting LK for their price...go for it.

A limp stalk of celery
a smelly muddy boot
a used tampon
a burning tire
syphilis
Although Lane and syphilis are pretty much the same thing...an irritating rash but cureable unless you allow it to fester with preventive protection being the best method for avoiding this ailment.

Lane is the best option because he has the highest floor AND highest ceiling of anyone realistically available

The other 2 names closest to him in terms of low risk high reward are Heupel and Dillingham and i dont know how available either of those 2 are.

Obviously you don't agree that there are "better" options.
I obviously disagree.

And the fact still remains, neither you or me will know that answer until someone is hired and given the opportunity to prove it. Unless you have some special college coach pickem power I am not aware of...I certainly don't have that.

There are a ton of coaches that schools would not have hired based on certain criteria that in fact are now successful. There is no magic formula.

You are missing the point I am trying to make. Lane is a good coach and would most likely do very well here. But, do we want this drama and his childish character that comes with it. When I believe we could be as successful with a coach that doesn't bring that along.
