Planning a trip first or second week of January. Other than planning on freezing temperatures, any other recs as far as hotels, etc.? I’m not an OT baller but want something better than a Holiday Inn.
ETA: looks like there are some nice IHG hotels there so disregard my last sentence.

Without meaning any sort of offense, click the Search link on this board. I have to imagine your question has been asked a dozen times this year alone.

Are you going to celebrate the advent of socialism? I will never step foot in that city again.

A one-way trip on the subway is less than $3.

As long as you stick to the Subway & Bus, you'll spend no more than $35 on transportation for the week. We usually stay in the UWS near the 72nd St Station. There's an express train that gets you to TS in about 5 mins.

At least once a year I feel obligated to make the post that the NYC experience is so much better when you are willing to walk a bit and take the train or bus, unless its just horrible weather or really late at night.
While I totally understand getting a car service from the airport with luggage and a large group, last month I set a personal record of 44 minutes from sitting at the bar in Moynihan Train Hall to catching the E train to Roosvelt, then Q70 free bus to LGA, to getting through security and walking in the Amex Lounge. That trip at 5 pm would have taken 1.5 hours in a car, maybe longer. Its rare to have that level of timing, even waiting 1 train and 1 bus it still would have been less than an hour.

I was doomed at LGA on Delta in the early 2000s for a couple of months, I don't have a fond view of it, or the travel there, in any way. Except it wasn't JFK. EWR in the summer, blech.
I just love everything about every travel disaster that can occur to me, because it makes me laugh. Resilience is the key to not being miserable.
