can't forget about Kevin Mawae, did not play a "glorious" position, but the damn best in a very long time!

Josh Reed was the best I have witnessed in my lifetime.
Alan Faneca is #2.
Kevin Faulk is #3.
I've been watching LSU football since 1976.

I am doing some demographic research for a possible media event regarding LSU football in 2009.
What kind of media event?
To pick the best LSU player is like trying to pick out the best crawfish in a 200 lb sack. It's all about personal tastes.
My player was a great guy off the field, too. He could catch, block, run hard or put one of those unnatural moves on you.... #21 RB Dalton Hilliard
Get some video, get some religion.

I thank you all for your replies!
I understand that this is a long and worn out debate, but I want to hear from Tiger Nation what they think. Keep them coming.... I want to hear what you have to say....good or bad.
Please be on the look out over the next few months for more Treads.
My research will be compiled and put to use in an episodic documentary series about LSU football.
I will release more information as this project unfolds.
Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you more and more.

Dorsey is the most decorated soooooo...

Brasky once scored a 101 yard touchdown on a pass to himself, back-pedaled into the end zone, gave the head cheerleader a kiss, from which she later gave birth to quintuplets, and then quickly breast-fed Mike The Tiger back to health. All before the ensuing kickoff.
He was a player.
He was a player.

I would probably pick Alan Faneca as the guy who played his position better than anyone else did at LSU. But choosing between him, Dorsey, JaMarcus, Reed, Cannon, Alexander, Cassonova, Faulk, Jones, and dozens of others is splitting hairs too fine for any kind of accuracy.

Faneca & Josh Reed were the best at their position that I've seen here.
Each time they lined up, the man across the line knew he was outmatched.

Lot of other threads on this recently you could look through.
My top ten would be:
Casanova
Cannon
Dorsey
Bert Jones
Alexander
Stovall
Hodson
Faulk
Hilliard
Landry
I could easily substitute a couple dozen guys for the last 7 spots on the list. My top 3 would not change.

I wonder how many yards Billy Cannon would have had if they adjusted for inflation? If you look at his stats:
Led the Tigers in rushing with 598 yards on 139 carries (4.3 per rush) ... Rushed for five touchdowns ... Caught 11 passes for 161 yards ... Served as the Tiger’s punter for a majority of the season, punting 44 times for 1,774 yards (40.3 per punt) ... Was the Tiger’s primary return man, returning eight kickoffs for 191 yards (23.8 per return) and 15 punts for 221 yards (14.7 per return) and one touchdown ... Also served as the anchor for the Tiger’s defense, returning four interceptions for 145 yards (47.6 per interception) ...
RB's these days are amassing 11-15 TDs a season, and rushing for twice that.
