VERY respectable! I just glanced at it but I'm more interested from a biz perspective in the right column. Looks like LSU has a pretty good profit margin. Auburn looks to have a fairly high profit margin as well. Nice to see that LSU football can pay for the other sports that don't generate any revenue. Again I glanced at the article so I didn't see if the profits include LSU approved apparel and souveniers?

Thanks for posting this!

I hope you don't mind if I use this as my sig quote. Too funny!

1. Football

Then everything else.
It's been a fantastic....what....Decade? At least a decade since Texas A&M was anything other than a 'why bother' school in football. Yes, they've upset Texas a couple of times but they're on a pretty serious dry spell.

Personally I know a number of Aggie fans and this drought has been a godsend. They are the cockiest fans I've ever been around as a whole when their team is winning. The way things are going down there, it looks like another decade of mediocrity to outright pitiful is in their future.
In a discussion like this you have to bring in enough players that Faulk likely wouldn't even make your top ten. Here are some names to consider as well:

Y.A. Tittle
Pete Maravich
Jim Taylor
A.J. Duhe
Shaq
Josh Reed
Rohan Davey
Hokie Gajan
Charlie Alexander
Dalton Hilliard
Glenn Dorsey
Glenn Davis
Bob Pettit

This isn't my list of favorite players and its in no particular order. I really like Faulk but he doesn't make my top ten. I know after writing this I could throw in about ten more.

Bottom line? LSU certainly has had it's share of great players. I didn't even mention anyone from baseball or track just to focus on basketball and football.

So in answer to your question, Faulk might make the top ten in some lists but don't be surprised if a good portion of fans don't have him there. There are just too many 'favorites' that have played at LSU!

not "very well written"

:::buzzhorn sound::: This is extraordinarily well written and a riveting piece! It is the best read I've seen in quite some time. It is an in depth look at LSU's new recruiting class. It also gives some great insight on how much of a scumbag Lane Kiffin truly is. I'm sure that no coach in the SEC will befriend this assclown. It makes you excited about the prospects for upcoming seasons. I couldn't quit reading it! Could someone tell us more about this blogger and his qualifications? I want to see where I can read more of his dialogue! If you haven't read it yet and are only viewing the comments, take your time and read it from the top. It's extraordinarily well written. This guy should work for the Advocate. I love what he has to say and how he says it.

Excellent read! Thank you for sharing!

if jackson was a tiger, and kiffin was still running his mouth about 2-time NC coaches being cheaters, bragging about instructing 18 year old kids to be dishonest, and attempting to rub another NC coach's face in it for stealing one of his coaches, when he hasn't run ONE SEC PRACTICE even, yeah i'd still think he was an arrogant little prick who has no idea what's coming to him.

DING DING DING! We have a WINNAH!

Get a load of his physical threats to former bammer coachs Ogeron and Thompson now at UT.

I'm thinking Ogeron would bitch rape him while yelling 'RAWR RAWR OLE MISS'.

Do I agree with how JJ handled it? No, but it is his right to select the college of choice.
There was probably a ton of pressure from others to go to LSU...and he did not want to deal with it...he made a mistake by misleading LSU....but things happen.

I wish him well...

"If you ain't a Tigah...then you're TigahBait!"

Sorry for the confusion.....I was wondering how you felt about Kiffin. I have no problem with Janzen and wish him well too.
HOW COULD WE FORGET ABOUT THE HOKE? Hokie Gajan! I remember being at a Saints game when the Hoke was running the ball. He lowered his head and nailed a cornerback before being pushed out of bounds. The 'Yats' (believe me....I loved the 'Yat Attack') behind us threw their beer up in the air douching everyone around us and this fat boy yells out, 'HE AIN'T NO POKE! HE'S THE HOKE!'

We all went apeshit when he said that! Wow, Hokie Gajan....yep....transcendent LSU athlete.
a self righteous tattle tale punk? In every recruiting class you're going to lose some players. But personally I'm not liking this guy from the 'get go'. What about you...do you agree with how he's handling his complaints?

Kevin Faulk, Kevin Mawae, Booger, Bradie James?

Absolutely! There are a number of players who would fit into this mold. How about say comparing Jim Taylor to todays Jacob Hester? Or say Y.A. Tittle to Matt Mauck? What about Burt Jones playing in place of Matt Flynn?

I think to have this conversation you'd have to be drunk or stoned to make it even more interesting!

Is it just me or after reading all Kiffins's comments

I'm in agreement with you. I've never liked the 'tattle tale' coaches in the SEC. I lost respect for Spurrier with his comments even though I though he was a great coach.

Kiffin is coming off as a punk. I'm thinking there are a few Vol fans that are raising an eyebrow to his 'self righteous' accusations. I'm rooting for the trouble maker to fail. I like every team in the SEC and UT is one of my favorites, but Kiffin is coming across as a crybaby. Looks like the insane Al Davis was right to get rid of this loud mouth.

Would a player like say AJ Duhe be considered as a possible LSU transcendent athlete?

What about say...Dalton Hilliard?

Would you throw Charlie Alexander in there?

How about some that people might consider a stretch such as Carlos Carson, David Woodley, etc?

FWIW the La talent pool was down last year

True however we did do fairly well that year. I believe the state of Alabama had a better talent pool that same year, correct?

Ranking of signing classes has limited predictive usefulness.

Absolutely! But keeping with why we've been successful, I just don't think this is solely due to our success on the field. It helps, but it isn't the only reason and certainly may not be the main reason.
quote:

I've always bought into it because most of the recruiting is done while the team is still the defending nat'l champs. We really couldn't cash in on the NC last year in recruiting because there is only a month and change between the NC game and NSD and many kids have made up their minds by that point. All year this year, we were able to talk kids into coming to play with the defending national champs.

Excellent point. I'm just wondering if these three other reasons aren't why LSU has been successful in recruiting the past couple of years:

Saban was a great recruiter.
Les is a great recruiter.
Louisiana is the flagship university of a talent rich state and surrounding states.

Granted winning those titles helped, but it seems that sportswriters are convinced that winning the titles are the main reason we've been so successful recruiting wise.

Of course there is a bump, and les is a great recruiter, its both

Agreed but to read these articles, it seems to be a consensus that we landed this class almost strictly due to winning the title a year ago.

Personally, I think it helped but it doesn't deter from the fact that Miles is a fantastic recruiter.

I'm curious, what kind of 'bump' did LSU get after winning it in '03?
It's almost a common theme amongst sports pundits and spinners that LSU garnered a great recruiting class almost solely due to the 'National Recruiting Bump'.

We won that title in '07 and didn't have the number one class in '08. We went 8-5 yet had the number one or two class depending on where you get your information this year.

Do you believe that the biggest reason LSU was so successful in recruiting this year is due to our winning a national title in the '07 season?
