We need to do our research and hire a great coordinator off of another coaching staff

Most of the current great programs did that. Georgia, Oregon, Ohio State, Michigan, etc. did that.

Let’s quit being lazy and trying to hire someone else’s old retread head coach off of their staff. Do your research and find an up and coming assistant coach who needs his breakthrough opportunity as a head coach.

Klein, Stein, Hartline. One of these 3 will be the next big thing. Odds are the other 2 will fail. Gotta pick the right one but that would require an actual interview process

So what do you suggest? You can’t just say that without an alternative suggestion.

Do you want a retread head coach? That didn’t work out for us with Kelly.

It’s the way to go especially if we are down to considering Drinkwitz. Pay a fraction of the price with a fraction of the buyout and do our homework finding a good young coach. Don’t overpay for a coach we will have to fire in a few years anyway.

Kiffin is both a college and pro retread.

Out of this group, I would choose Klein. Coach Day brought in Chip Kelly last year to help Hartline with playcalling. And I would worry that he could leave if OSU opens up. Stein is good, but I think Klein would be a better hire of those 3. He has the A&M offense rolling and you look how fast he flipped the script agsinst South Carolina.

But I would rather go with Kiffin or Freeman. I think I would pick someone like Eric Morris over them too. He has experience as HC and has hired coaches before.

We have spent a ton of money on defensive coordinators. Kelly ran Denbrock off. He may be the best offensive coordinator in the country. We have had and went after good ones...

My main issue is with Drinkwitz. He will want Ryan Day money with a massive buyout. In my mind this prices him out of the market. Maybe paying Drinkwitz around 6 million could work, but no way he’s worth $11 million he will want.

Maybe him too. Idk it's a crapshoot without being in the interview room and hearing their plans for building out the rest of their staff. I like that Klein and Stein run their side of the ball themselves. Kirby is very involved with the UGA defense so it's harder to guess what Schumann will be like without Kirby but otoh he's had the better mentors

Considering hes the top candidate for most schools disagrees. Plus hes young. Mostly retread coaches are old.

Check your reading comprehension. It sounds like you completely misunderstood the post.

I’m talking about our head coach hire.

The advantage to picking Morris is he is paid $1.4 million right now. You could pay him 5 million with a fraction of the buyout of big name coaches. If things don’t work out in 2-3 years you can move on easily. Hiring a coach like Morris requires a lot of research to find out if he is a good fit. Our past administration liked to hire lazy and easy. Hopefully Verge changes this.

Newsflash. Drink already makes around $9 million. He ain’t coming to LSU for less.
